What year is your truck and what were the differences between your model turbo and mine? I know the exhaust brake is different but other than that? ..... I just bought a '16 KR.

My truck is a 14. Ford redesigned the turbos for the 2015 model year. The 11-14 pickup trucks had turbos with ceramic bearings and these bearings like to break under extreme heat. If I remember correctly, the new ones are a lot like the tubos found under the hood of a Duramax, which are very reliable. There is a kit to change the 11-14 turbo to a 15 turbo and with tuning its a monster. The Ford Diesel tech who did my turbo said my turbo was the 5th one he has done and the other tech has done at least 20.

Ok thanks, I had a Pacbrake exhaust retarder on my '02 7.3 and it really work well. I was kind of worried about the stock exhaust brake on my new truck, read a lot of bad reviews on the '12 -'14 6.7. Needless to say it really works when you use tow haul and manual downshifting to keep the rpms up......very happy with it.

Cat's Eye Round Two

Looking for some advice from folks running the Cat's Eye Tire Pressure system. I have confirmed that my vibration over 75 MPH is the Cat's Eye system. I tried the Centramix system for dynamic balance and it didn't fix the vibration. I removed all the Centramix and the Cat's Eye, returned wheels to factory orientation (valve stems aligned) and the vibration is gone.

Spoke with the Cat's Eye folks and they recommended trying to mount the Eye to the hub rather than a lug nut. (move the weight more to the center)

I will give that a try this weekend. Looking to see if any of my fellow DRW drivers have already solved this issue by some other means?

Thanks...

Might have to get a wheel weight to counteract the weight of the transmitter

Hey everyone. Just tossing it out if you or know someone in need of stock tires.
I have 7 factory BFG tires that are taking up space. 245/75-17 with about 3300 miles.
I'm in central California

Anyone interested make me a fair offer.
Thanks

Keith

ZooDad.........FYI, I took the stock tires/wheels off my F350 dually the day I brought it home, they had 27 miles on them. I advertised them with the spare tire (I kept the spare wheel) for $1500. That night A guy called and said he'd buy them, didn't even hagle on the price. I know the retail price of all this stuff is a lot more but folks just don't pay for used equip. no matter how new it is......good luck with your parts.

I blew my turbo too and then upgraded to the 15 turbo that Midwest Diesel puts out called the Streetmax R. Its a totally different truck.

Yes I know about Midwest and they will be my first phone call when funds are available. I would like to take my truck there and have them do it, its hard to find a Diesel shop here in PA that is willing to take off the EGR, they seem to be afraid of that. That drive for me is 14 hours one way but it's going to be worth it. That turbo is already in my cart and the GPS is already programmed.

So I called Ford customer service today to try to get reimbursed for renting a van when the truck was down. It was denied, it seems you need to have an extended warranty to get the rental/loaner coverage. Is it me or am I wrong in thinking that anybody that has a vehicle that is in for warranty work should be provided a vehicle. What I hear as a customer is, we(ford) know there is a turbo issue, sorry. We don't care you were without a truck for 26 days and of those 26 days you had to pay for a rental van for 14 days. We don't care you couldn't pull your dump trailer or tool trailer. So now I have to buy another truck just in case the one I have now breaks again, thanks Ford.

It is the dealer who should have provided it.

Generally only the selling dealer will provide loaners as there is no requirement by Ford to provide loaners not covered by insurance (extended warranty).. Many dealers will maintain a small inventory of various types of loaners, but I've not seen or heard of anyone that will loan out a late model Super Duty.
You may want to check your own insurance policy to see if you have coverage that will help defray that cost..

I'm a mechanic at a Lexus dealership and they give loaners to everyone who is still under warranty upon request. They should have loaners regardless if it's a Superduty or F150.

The work was done at the dealer I bought from. It doesn't really matter now, I will be ordering a E series van, it's better for my needs anyway. I think the trans is going now, the shifting from 1-2 and the 3-4 shifts are getting worse and I smell gear oil whenever I get out of the truck. There are no leaks but I need to check the dipstick. And I have to take the truck back to the dealer because the turbo is farting when I let off the throttle, probably the wastegate. Another two days with no truck.

Well I am done with this truck. Tomorrow I will be picking up my new van. I counted 42 days that this truck was in the shop and that doesn't include the two times I fixed it myself. That much time in the shop is unacceptable. I will be taking a long break from Ford 's F series trucks. As I was taking off all my add ones, I open the hood to disconnect several things from the battery and notice my coolant level is low, real low, so I look around and notice the radiator is leaking, I am getting rid of this thing just in time. Carry on my thread.
