Headers! I need help

I have a 1970 swb f100, the engine is a 351w with an auto trans behind it. Anyone have any experience with putting headers in this situation. I'm thinking long tube and shorty's will fit but don't want to buy a set and not have them fit. thanks for the help.

Welcome to FTE!
It has been mentioned recently. Someone said they tried like mad and found no long tubes to fit. Shorties prolly will. I suggest using the search engine at the top of this board's home page and research it out. There is also a TON of info in HioSilver's compilation sticky also top o' the page. Check it out.

The 351W is an inch taller and slightly wider than the 302 and the 351W is prolly the blastard child of engine swaps for these rigs.

Certain shorties fit and some don't... it all depends where it dumps. Sanderson makes generic block huggers that work but most guys don't wanna part with that much coin.

I haven't seen an FTE member post a PN for a set of long tubes that do fit. My suggestion has been to modify a set of 302 truck headers by splaying the primary tubes and perhaps extending them to mimic the 302 geometry... no takers yet. Will you be the first?

Perhaps a set of fender well headers for something like an LTD. Early '70s. Run the pipe outside the rails.

Thanks for the response people. I'm was thinking about putting block huggers on, I know that where they dump is going to make all the difference. Have any of you seen any 302 applications of shorty headers? I'm assuming if it works for a 302 it should work for the 351.

elgemcdlf- I like the Idea but im going to lower it so im afraid of tire clearance issues.

HIO Sliver- thanks for the info, don't think im going to be doing any splicing, cutting and welding, would rather just bolt something on.

Let me know what you find out. I'm trying to find headers for my 351C motor. I've got a pair of 302 headers I was going to modify. But I don't see why they wouldn't work on your 351W unless the cab clearance is too tight.

header fit

The 302 headers I tried on my 72 with 351w, were too short and wouldn't clear the bellhousing/starter, or the engine mount on the passenger side. That exrratra 1.3" deck height is too much. Supposedly, fox body shorty headers will fit. From the pictures, they look like they will work. Thats my next try.
