'03 6.0 with 4r100 transmission

I have an early build f350 with a 4r100 transmission. Came that way from the factory. Everyone says impossible because only the 7.3 came with it. Tranny is going can I swap to the torqueshift and should I?

How did you verify that it's a 4R100? The 7.3L bell-housing pattern is different, a 4R100 trans from a 5.4 and 6.8 gas motor would bolt up, but it wouldn't have come from the factory in that setup.

If you want to know what tranny your truck came with go to www.fordparts.com and enter your vin number and do a parts search, it will show you on the upper left hand of the screen what transmission it has. I have always understood that the 6.0L was only offered with the torqueshift automatic or a manual transmission.

The transmission control is very different. it is not a simple swap. Your truck is not supposed to exist. Are you 100 percent on both the 6.0 and the 4r100?

well... 100% 6.0. I guess I am making an assumption on the trans because it is only a 4 speed D321. I will verify with the vin and post back.

Do you have a tow/haul or overdrive off switch on the steering column?

tow haul on the shift column. Fordparts.com says torqueshift. Why if a 5 speed do I only show D321?

Because Ford wouldn't spend the money to add a '4' position.

Here's what would have to happen to install a 4R100 at the factory.

Your truck would need a custom driveshaft (2 if it's a 4x4) because the TorqShift is a different length. It would also need a custom wiring harness because the 5R110 harness wouldn't connect to a 4R100. And then someone would need to create a custom computer and software to run a 6.0L/4R100 combination. Ford didn't do this, so how would all of this come together in the factory? It is IMPOSSIBLE for this to happen.

Didn't I read somewhere the TorqueShift is technically a 6speed (two three speed boxes in one case) with third and fourth so close together in ratio it selects between the two depending on conditions. Bad info?
