That video was shown on another 6.7 site. I thought it was worth sharing.
I left the diesel world after a taste of an "06" 6.0.
I'd like to come back but until the big three start a race for trouble free durability, I'm gonna stick with a gasser.
On the subject of the "tick" being normal, they would ALL tick,
except for the f'd up trucks! It ain't normal.

I don't agree that this engines problem is the same as others that have the tick. The reason why is all the engines don't tick with the factory oil but will immediately start after the first oil change and the tick will go away after some miles on the fresh oil.
Also I read that some engines that had the tick eventually went away after some miles on the engine and never returned.
The above may not match every possible tick senerio, but seams to be the most common.
Any yes some gas engine tick too... It's called piston slap and the mfg usually calls it normal. Some do it and some don't.

My 2015 has this ticking. It sounds like a sharp "clack". As a mechanic I've heard plenty of ticks. This sort of reminds me of the clacking my old FJ40 makes when its hot. One lifter wasn't ground correctly and has wore the top of the lobe flat so the lifter doesn't rotate.
"clack clack clack clack clack"
But that motor had 350000 miles.
This one has 1100.

Subscribing. My 2011 has 179000 km. I just changed the oil on the weekend and 2 days later heard the ticking. Never heard it before. That's why I searched "ticking" and it led me here. Love this forum. But yes, agree that this is strange. Being a family man I owned a 2003 Grand Caravan with a 3.3 L. That thing ticked when it was getting due for an oil change.

Mine ticks. Started at the 7k mile mark. It ticks when the oil is changed. It will quiet down and completely go away around 3500-4k miles into the oil change. When I change the oil at 5k miles. It goes to ticking again. 5w40 Valvoline synthetic made it tick loud through the entire oil change. 10w30 Motorcraft has the least noticeable tick so I run it. Gonna try the XL-17 additive stuff from Ford next oil change. I've learned to live with it. Heard a very good explanation on another forum about why it does it but can't remember all the specifics. I never have any shavings on the drain plug and oil analysis come back great so I quit caring.
