Howdy. I'm a new Excursion owner. Had a lifted F250/V10 on for the past 6 years and loved it, but as my boys got bigger, and the big truck being relegated to vacation camper/boat pulling duty, decided to see if I could trade for an Excursion. I traded a nice guy for this cream-puff EX a few weeks ago, and have been messing with it since. It's an 03/V10 with 05 front end and newer F250 20" wheels.
So far I've changed fluids and filters. Detailed it. Hand waxing these sucks. It was throwing lean codes and tripping the Check Engine Light, but I removed and cleaned the MAF, and no more codes.
Last weekend I installed a leveling kit. Just the 3" in front mini pack and 2" block in back, plus shocks. Put it up a little.
I've ordered the hub-centric spacers, and think I can fit some 35X12.50R20's on these wheels without too much issue. I'll find those next week. Trying to stay around $1000 for rubber, which will be tough.
I also replaced the left inner tie-rod yesterday due to some rattling in the front end, but it didnt resolve my issue. Everything else feels tight. Maybe ball joints? Any other thoughts?
Anyway, this is a cool truck. Feels like a school bus compared to my old F250 Supercab..

I had rattling in my front end and replaced the sway bar end links to resolve it for the most part. Still had a small rattle and that was the sway bar mount bushings. Now it's all quiet up front. When I was under there, jerking the sway bar around made just enough noise to let me know that's where my problem was.
Nice looking Ex, very clean!
Stacking lift blocks is a touchy subject with a lot of folks siding on the don't do it camp, I'm in that group. I think a properly sized single block like the 4" (actually 3.75"or so) tapered block from an F-350 is a better choice than stacking 2 2" blocks.
I'll give the sway bar and end links another look tomorrow, thanks.
For the stacked blocks, yeah, I can see the point. These springs sure are mushy. I might replaced them all later.
My lean codes came back tonight just as the truck hit 100 miles since clearing.
P0171-Power train/Lean Bank 1
P0174-Power train/Lean Bank 2
Maybe fuel filter or EGR? I'll see if Torque app can point me in the right direction.
Yeah, the stock EX springs are very mushy! Plenty of good info here on spring swaps to transform the Ex into what it SHOULD have been!
You might want to post your trouble codes over in the V-10 forum for more help.
Tires are 35/12.5R20. They are Gladiators, load range E. Cheap. Can be had for $900 shipped from a few Ebay vendors. I bought mine three days ago, and they got here yesterday, from South Carolina. I like these a lot. Sort of a cross between an all terrain and a mud terrain. They're quiet.
The lift was the el-cheapo mini spring 'block' for the front, and the steel block for the back. Plus the Pro-Comp shocks. The ride sucks because the springs are so flat, so I'll be looking for a full set of F250 or F350 springs.
I know, I'm a cheap-azz, but this isnt my daily driver and I work at home. This thing will just be the boat/camper puller.
After 2nd round of wax, and added 1" shackles to level the front. Just ordered the Air Lift springs for the rear because my little 24' Camper made it look like it was dragging it's butt down the highway. Did the door seal mod with 3/8 clear tubing, but then pulled it out because it made the doors too hard to shut. I'll try something softer next time. Digging this big girl.
