Towing a camper and boat at the same time
When I was driving back from New Orleans, I went through Alabama, and on the next road over from the highway, I saw three pickups, each pulling a small camper. Each camper had a bass boat on a trailer hooked to a hitch on the back of the camper. So, each rig was three units long.
I'd never seen that before -- didn't even know it was legal to do that. I wonder if they were professional bass fishermen or something?

That's weird. For some strange reason I was just wondering if that would be possible this past weekend. I was thinking it would be cool to borrow a friends pop up camper and tow a small jonboat & trailer behind it for a weekend of camping/fishing. But I wasn't sure if it was possible or legal either.

So how long can they be... say F350CC Long box DRW with a 35' 5'er + a 23' bow rider boat...that would be a mighty long tractor trailer, definetly requiring your A license, but beyond that would that even be drivable?? What about when you get off the highway and have to make it around a corner...I guess you'd be just like those tractor trailers with dual trailers...oh well would be interesting.
I like the idea as taking a boat + camper up north is a bit of a pain, nicer to have it all together.

Each state is a bit different but in general the last vehicle towed must be on a Pintle hitch, which is not the usual ball type. I think you can also use the regular 5th wheel type hitch but when was the lst time you saw a camper trailer with a 5th wheel hitch on the back?
I have heard from various sources that backing up one of these rigs is tons o fun to back up.

The only way to back the up safely and properly would be to drop the back trailer and back the front trailer in then rehook and back the second on in. I have seen these setups quite a bit in several states. I dont know if they are lgal or not, but I would assume that they were as they stand out and I have never seen one getting a ticket.

Each state has their own requirments. My father in law tows a 22' 5th wheel and a 19' SeaRay boat. He just had a receiver mounted to the frame on the 5th wheel.
As far as length goes, look up your local DOT or DMV. They can tell you. They can also tell you if you can have similar hitches. Due to this coming up often on FTE, I did some research and found out that in New Mexico, you can tow two trailers as long as the middle trailer is heavier than the last trailer. I don't remember anything about brakes. You can be 65' in New Mexico.
As I said, look up, call, whatever your local DOT or DMV. They can tell you the skinny on your local laws. Also call any areas that you are intending on visiting to make sure it is legal there.

Most of the western states allow for two trailer towing, Some of them allow for three trailer towing..
I have towed a 53 foot gooseneck, with a 20 ft utility trailer behind it, and a small box trailer behind that. Makes for very interesting corners.
