This 1942 Ford Truck was Drafted into the Military

If the F-150 Raptor is Ford's newest badass truck, consider the 1942 stakebed/flatbed you see here its grandfather.

Oh that is nice. Old war trucks are always cool. No matter the make. I wish it had the pop out windshield.

I dig the old WWII truck, looks great !!
But with the WWII trucks it makes me wonder how the military specs differ from the civilian spec Ford trucks? Did they get bigger engines, HD trans and axles type of thing? Or did the military back then just use what ever was coming off the production line at the time.

Most noticible difference I have seen between my military production '43 G8T and a civilian 1.5 ton is 6 lug wheels, distributor setup, maybe waterpump, fold out windshield, round gauges instead of normal square gauge panel, headlight cover bars, turn signals are blank on the the fender, hood is badgeless. I haven't visually inspected a frame on a civilian truck. But my frame has a inner frame as well that extends from around the transmission to the front rear axle spring hanger. It has big rear steel bumpers and spring cushioned pintle hitch.

I believe that the G8T all came with the normal civilian 6 cylinder flathead and 4 speed transmission. My truck had duel fuel tanks and there were a few weird features that were related to them but I can't tell you specifics as they were all but torn up and gone.

Thanks Chris ! I'll bet your truck is a real head turner when you are driving it down the road.
