1949 F1 Grounding

Trying to put my truck back to as near original as possible after its been thrown together by the PO. Where exactly do the ground straps go from battery positive to frame, engine and firewall. Again looking for the original locations.

Unsure about the frame but my 1951 F1 has a ground at the firewall towards the center on the passanger side. Sorry for the vague description but I am not by the truck at the moment

It's a 12V conversion, but I think these two ground locations are retained from stock: (48 F1): battery negative to firewall on the passenger side, and transmission mounting bolt to cab sheet metal down below the one on the firewall. There's another, BH to driver's side down low, but I don't think that's original.

Don't matter 6 or 12vts. Correctly; batt grd. to eng. block. eng. block to
firewall, cab to chassis and chassis to rear body. Proper grounding is top
priority, with out grounds = ground will seek any path to ground such as thru
speedometer cables/ brake cables & lights and such act like the twilight zone..

Big Job, you are correct, that is how it should be electrically, but I've seen a couple of Dearborn-level trucks, very correct, and they were grounded from the battery to the firewall with a braided strap. The Parts CD shows this too. It just isn't right if you want starter current to flow freely.

As I read through the text in the parts catalog for battery ground straps, I see there were two different ones available for 48-52 F1-6 V8 conventional trucks. The earlier version, 78 14301 is listed as 9.6" long, which tells me it couldn't end too far from the battery. The other one appears later and the way I read the catalog is also for use on earlier trucks as a suitable, new and improved substitution. It's p/n 2RC 14301-A, shown as Battery to Engine Ground 17 1/2" long. There may be more than one way to be correct.

Hope this helps,

My Parts CD shows different numbers and lengths than yours, Wayne!
Regardless of what is correct, I'd hook from the battery to the block or BH, particularly at 6v.
