I currently own an 02 F150 XTR w/4 wheel disc (5 bolt) which I had purchased not long ago....and needs an OPI ( due to this provinces policy on sucking ***** )
I had to replace the brakes all around and while doing so, it became apparent that I also needed to rebuild the parking brakes...as the complete assembly was missing. I believe the prev owner removed it as the cable seems seized.
Now I have checked around and could find everything I needed to rebuild it, with exception to the actuator levers. I did not check dealer price, I have no first born to give them...so I went to pick & pull and found a set. They were inherently rusted so I took them to work and promptly sandblasted them. Cleaned them up rather well I might add.
Which leads me to my question.
Are they supposed to be a 2 piece unit? Or somehow peened together?

 

The two pieces are together with a pivot - that's how they spread the shoes. The single-bar fits in the opening of the double-bar, and that's where the rust has a seize party.
