Clutch getting bad, 140k so I can't complain---question is auto parts house wants to know if its 10" or 11", I dont know, can I just put 11" back regardless or does the same size have to go back? also is the slave cylinder and throw out bearing one piece or seperate-----94 f150, 300/6, 5 speed---sorry but I've got 1 more; I remember something about plugs leaking on top of the 5 speed tranny---what are these called? where can I get them, dealer?---Thx
The flywheel should have the bolt holes to attach the pressure plate for the 11 inch clutch disc & pressure plate . The only official name is plug that I can find , they are Ford Part No. F5TZ 7A107 A & they list for $2.66
The difference between the clutches is the GVW on the vehicle. The parts shop should be able to see that the 11" is for the heavier truck. (At least, this is what the computer at my work (Kragen) says). Regarding the plugs, I don't know what they're called, but you might have look if you search the threads. I know I've seen questions on it posted before.
The flywheel has both patterns for the different size clutch's. You will need to resurface the flywheel if going from a 10 to 11 or vice verce. Also, the 10 uses 5/16 threaded p/p bolts and the 11 uses 3/8, so obtain 6 appropriate bolts before hand, just in case. Another thing, a strong air ratchet or impact (electric or air) is VERY valuable for loosening the cross member bolts (deep 18mm socket w/ swivel required). To remove the shift lever, remove the floor boot and unscrew the cover around the shift with a pair of channel locks, slide a pin to the side and pull straight up.

My local tranny guy says they replace those leaky rubber plugs with metal freeze plugs. They will never leak again. And still pop out for shift rail removal.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Mar-02 AT 03:48 PM (EST)]The plugs are called Shift Rail plugs. From Ford they are rubber and last about 60-100k miles. I have heard of steel plugs to replace these and is a good idea. the reason for these to be rubber is for ease of access to the shift rail assembly. i have personally rebuilt 2-3 dozen of these trans assemblies and have not had to worry to much about the plugs except to replace them every time. The move to an 11" clutch is the smartest idea. Not only will it withstand more torque and hp but will last 10 of more times longer. at the ford shop where I work we always suggest this upgrade to our customers and rarely see them back. The difference in price is usually 10-20 bucks. The bolts for the upgrade are available locally here at Knechts auto parts stores so many others should also have them. you need of course to have your flywheel resurfaced and they usually resurface the whole face. Make sure and pull out the alignment pins before sending this out. There is a separate clutch disc 11" and presure plate 11" for this upgrade. The Ford slave cylinder is an updated part and does come with the throwout bearing attached. You should replace both since the trans is out and they are available as one part. You would hate to have to go back in and replace the slave later if it begins to leak. You might also replace the input shaft seal that is behind the slave. Also do not forget the Pilot bearing.
