Bought a 92 F150 Project and have some questions...
So I picked up a 92 F150 2 wheel drive regular cab custom with the 300 and a 5 speed. It had been sitting for about 5 years. I bought it from the original owner with 175k on it and I got it for $250.
When I got it home all it needed was a new starter solenoid and some fresh gas and it started right up. The reason they parked it was that it had a really high idle and could not pass emissions test. From what I have read searching on here its either a IAC valve or a vacuum leak.
Question 1, I cleaned out the IAC valve but haven't tested it yet because I need to change the oil and coolant out before I run the engine too much. So will cleaning it out fix it temporarily or is it possible that it is completely shot and cleaning it wont do a thing? When I started it I let it run for a couple minutes and the idle just kept climbing. No tach so I am not sure how high it got.
Question 2 is do some parts from a F250 fit the F150s? Namely I am looking for front end parts like a headlight or grill or the pieces that go around the headlight, are they all interchangeable or no? Or even a tail light or a rear bumper? They sure look the same in pictures but I am not sure. When I get to that point I will be going to some pull a parts to get those.
Thanks, I am sure I will have more questions down the road but many have been answered searching through all the forums.
I will also take any advise on what to look for as I am cleaning it up.
In the next couple weeks I plan on a full tune up and change of fluids.
Thanks
Joe

The body parts from an F250 should fit your truck. I'm almost certain they are exactly the same.
For the high idle, also check the Throttle Position Sensor. You'll need a multi meter to do so. My 300-6 had a high idle and that was my issue.
Once you get it tuned up run the KOEO and KOER tests. They may be able to get you pointed in the right direction.
