1950 Ford F1 Accelerator linkage and return spring

I have a 1950 (late model) Ford F1 with the 226 H series engine. I have been preparing to add the external heat riser parts to the manifold after successfully freeing the slightly stuck shaft. I noticed that I might have a small problem in that the PO had put the return spring going down to the riser shaft interfering with the counterweight somewhat. I researched in other posts and have found that the spring should go to a pin right next to the speedometer cable in a hole that I have found in the floor pan. I have ordered the pin and the universal spring as I could not find the original for now. My question is, I know one end of spring would attach to the pin in the floor pan but what would I hook the other end to on the linkage? I cant find any holes in any of the linkage pieces for the other end of the spring end? I am attaching a pic of my setup now, any advice? Thanks!

I just installed mine yesterday. I looked for a long time before finding a picture showing this. I have mine hooked as shown. The only other ones I have seen that were not like your PO have been like this.

Thanks 51Fred, if you look closely, you will notice that our linkage pivots that attaches to the manifold are different, I wonder why my pivot is different? My engine is also bronze in color and starts with OHA which some have speculated means that my 226 engine was from a car. But then while cleaning the valve covers and further inspection, there is a layer of red paint under the bronze, so the plot thickens? Regardless, I wonder if I can find a linkage pivot like yours that has a location more suitable for a return spring?

The engine shown is out of a 46 Sedan. I am using it until the 51 engine is rebuilt. (sometime after the truck is done) That linkage is the same as on the 51 engine. If you don't find one let me know and I will look around through my pile to see if I have one.

I believe FoMoCo rebuilt engines were painted bronze, but I may be incorrect.

I'm just resurrecting this thread to say thanks to 51fred for the good picture of just what I was trying to determine about the throttle return spring. Added rep point too!
