Thanks again to all who responded. I said I would let people know what the final outcome is. As many of you suggested, the polarity definitely needs to be followed. After replacing the instrument cluster housing, the printed circuit board and the sockets, all the LED bulbs work perfectly and the dimmer functions. A lot of effort and expense but well worth it. Strongly recommend that you buy good LEDs to start with as was suggested to me. Thanks again.
