1967-72 DASH CHOKE & THROTTLE HOLE PLUGS
I'm restoring my 1978 F-7000, which uses a 1967-72 dash. Because it's diesel, the choke & throttle cables are not used. There was a chrome plug to cover the holes. It's about the size of a quarter, and has prongs in the center, to fit the small hole. Not the same as the one for the lighter hole. I have one, but need another. Does anybody have one?

I couldn't find that number in my printed 1978 Chassis Parts Catalog. Obviously, you found it in an illustration, because it doesn't have the complete suffix on it. So, I took a guess, and added a "13" on the end, because we know it's chrome plated, and "S13" is the code for that. For some reason, in typical Ford fashion, my 1972 Standard and Utility Parts Catalog doesn't list any version of the number. It somehow got inadvertently left out. It is in my 1990 version, though. So, I searched Parts Voice, and Google for it, anyway. No luck on Parts Voice, but Google brought me back to FTE, where numberdummy looked this same part up for somebody else! At least we now know that the part # is 374052-S13. Would you mind searching for it again?
Thanks,
Chuck

I Did. But same result. No wayno on D2D,Partsvoice,rearcounter.com,or EBAY. Sorry Buddy. How about getting a big headed plastic pushpin and painting it to match the dash? Untill you run across the correct ones in a JY. Since I know you have a Standard parts book an example of what I speak would be a 388246S. 7/16" shank diameter and a O.D. of 1 7/16". Check it out. Still available from Ford. Memphis Depot shows 108 in stock.

Most dealers don't inventory standard aka hardware parts, so these can be hard to find on obsolete parts search websites. But may be available at a local dealer.
In the 1960's while working on an inventory crew, took inventory at City Ford in LA, they had two 20' rows of standard parts bins that were 30' high.
Some of the parts in these bins were older than the 1920's building they were located in.

Bill,
There must be a mistake in this drawing, because the choke, throttle, and either start cable holes are all the same, and would all take the same plug. The lighter is a large round hole, that takes a standard plug with the prongs out near the edge. Anyway, if you have a chance, could you put the number on the Ford locator? I didn't have any luck anywhere else.
While we are talking, do you know of any way to look up the required hardware for a specific part? I'm trying to figure out what is supposed to hold the ash tray frame to the dash, and the books I looked in don't list anything. I'm more used to restoring 50's and earlier trucks. Those books almost always list the hardware!
Thanks,
Chuck

The thing is, one needs a Standard (aka hardware) Parts Catalog to verify the suffixes. The only one I have is from 2/2000 which is no help as 374052-S or 374053-S aren't listed.
Post 6: JEFFFAFA says that 388246-S is available from Ford.
Parts catalog illustrations may/may not show the complete standard parts suffixes. The text section is required to verify. But finding these plugs in the text section can be a real b!tch!

No one has 374053-S13 (13 may be incorrect) or 381578-S - I said this following Obsolete .. but you missed it.

I do have a few Standard Parts Catalogs. The 374052-S13 wasn't in the 1971 version, but I did find it in the 1990. As a matter of fact, when I googled the number, I found a post on FTE by you looking these up before. I can verify the S13 at the end of the 374053 tomorrow when I get to the shop, but I guess it doesn't matter since nobody has any, anyway. I wonder what the difference is in the 2? I'll just have to make sure I get one out of a 73-79 big truck instead of a 67-72 pickup. Unless you can find me an Either Start cable? My truck had one, but the **** is beat up. I hadn't planned to re-install the kit, but it would be nice to have the cable in there. I couldn't find a clean listing for one, so I searched all the numbers I found, with no luck. Maybe you will be able to find it?
Thanks again,
Chuck
