01 7.3 Just quit bt runs on Starting Fluid

My Dad hauls cars and got 3 hours away to the auction, ran fine down there, loaded up went to leave and it just quit. Its 2 degrees outside and he said he doesnt hear the fuel pump but if he sprays starting fluid it will fire up. It has been replaced once so its aftermarket. Im waiting for him to call back to see if he can check the fuses. Any other Ideas or Tests?

Might be gelled fuel- Put some 911 diesel additive in the tank- Dont recommend starting fluid on these trucks.

If it is fuse 30....disconnect the fuel bowl heater and replace the fuze. But at 2* it could be gelled lime the others say. Unless he put additive in when he filled up.

Check voltage as well, needs 10.5v+ cranking before the injectors will fire.

Like already said, check for gelled fuel, fuel pressure, and fuses.

Is the tach moving when he cranks it?
