before epoxy

Red Oak purchased from Midwest early ford. Sanded and used minwax water based tint followed by WEST system epoxy to seal the wood. Next step is to sand flat and then three coats of spar varnish. It is looking very nice so far.

Nice, if you weren't 700 miles away, I'd mail you my unfinished boards and have you put them in your production line. What's another 10 boards when you have the brushes wet and tarps in place?

Sounds like you are going to have wood to last a long time with those careful treatments and many coats.

Yep keeping an eye on build-up. The epoxy goes on thick about 2 mils per coat. So three coats of that and three of the varnish and it will be about 10 mils or about 3/64". Hopefully that wont be an issue.

Thanks for the positive comments guys, the wood is a lot more work than I initially thought it would be. I'm probably overdoing it with the epoxy, but it should last a long time.

Nobody ever looks back and wishes that they had taken short cuts and skimped on time, and quality. However who doesn't like looking back and admiring a nice job that they took there time and gave there best effort. Beautiful work, I don't think you will ever be sorry that you took the time.

Thanks for the encouragement.

The work is starting to pay off. The underside is done. Now 3 coats and a wet sand and buff for the top. Maybe another 20 hours to go.

Why does the bottom of the wood need to be almost perfect you might ask.... I have no idea... mostly practicing for the top.

That looks nicer than the wood floors in my house. Maybe I could hire you to refinish those for me.

Wow thats a deep shine! Guess you won't be hauling firewood with this truck.
You have put a lot of love into it, I can't wait to see the finished truck.
