noise

Rimrock,

I'm looking at the radiator and shroud. I have a similar one on a '54 F100 and it makes an awful lot of noise. It seems like it's about 3 or 4 times louder that it should be or any others I've heard. It's a single like yours. How loud is yours?

Very quite. I can't hear it at all in the cab and with the engine running can just hear it beside the truck. I have a couple friends with dual fans and both are much louder.

Mike,

A couple of things? I too just went through the entire build and it is very impressive, to say the least. Great detail and could I borrow your machinest helper? You say the fans are quiet, what brand are they, if you don't mind and what size are they? What brand of mufflers did you use, they really sound great? Nice job on everything.

Jim, the fans are Spal 10". I also have a single Spal 16" on my Fairlane, it is also quiet but the higher power fans do get noisier. I have a friend with a pair of powerful Spals in his Chevelle, I can tell when they are running sitting in my car behind him at a light. Mufflers are Borla, they came in a builders kit so don't have a model number that you can cross. They sound better in person. Lois didn't want anything too harsh just a nice rumble. They are very mellow in the cab when cruising down the road. After we get a few things done we will film some on the road footage.

It is sitting in the garage waiting for a flash of brilliance on my part, may be awhile. I was originally going to sell it, now I don't know. I want to see something cool done with it.

What happened on the drive? How did it go? Are you happy? Wouldn't be fun if no teething issues

Brake pedal ratio has been modified. There was some trouble getting a new fuel pump so I didn't get a replacement, not the one I wanted till today. I hooked it up and it is noticeably quieter than the last one. I need to modify the pump mount slightly as the new pump moves the inlet .170". Should have it done this weekend so we can take it for another drive and see if things go better.

I agree on the Borla's. I just replaced a pair of ss Thrush Glasspacks with a pair of ss Borla's (ProXS 400484 in my case). At least on my truck the glasspacks were too harsh for me. The sound track available on the Thrush website is not as loud as they were on my truck. I had had Glasspacks on a 73 F150 with a stock 360 and they sounded great. I was also younger! I know that engine overlap does make a significant difference in exhaust sound. I am very happy with the Borla sound.

use for flathead

Rimrock,

Thanks for the info. An idea for the old flathead, contact Joe Abin in New Mexico at Road Runners and get a nice blower for it. You won't have to do anything to the inside of it and you'll have some nice horsepower. It looks kind of slick besides. Made a template to do a little surgery on the crossmembers and should have the switch made on monday.
Thanks again,

Jim

We took Belle out for a nice shake down cruise today. Lois let me drive so she could film. Belle ran fantastic!!! No problems at all and we managed to get some filming done. Below is footage from inside the truck during our cruise along Oak Creek a few miles from home. Mostly slow cruising but we open her up near the end. I have some drive by footage that I will post as soon as possible, need to edit out Lois' feet talking to herself etc.
