I personally never had any doubts as to the integrity and strength of an aluminum alloy box, but I do know those doubts float around there. While I've always been more of the bowtie persuasion, but Ford is doing a really good job on their advertising, and shutting down any concerns of durability on their trucks.

I hope some of these shots make it the ad campaign. Granted, we're likely not going to be driving golf ***** at our truck beds but it's a solid argument for aluminum.
All Coast Guard and Naval ships superstructures are constructed of aluminum and they last 5-6 decades without anymore maintenance than painting.
The Coast Guard's 47' motor life boat is constructed entirely out of aluminum and these bots get pounded in the heavy surf and they've been on duty for well over 20 years.

Big *** SunRoof
As to the comment on the Big *** Sunroof...I have a Lincoln MKX with the Glass roof. Last year when the tornadoes hit Illinois, I was driving the MKX and ran into one of the storms. I too expected the large and heavy hail to take out the roof BUT it didn't!!!!! Hood damage was all the MKX took as I was pointed into the wind and the roof was unscathed! Don't be afraid of that great roof!

It will be interesting to see how they hold up in real life usage, especially hood, doors, and cab areas. These are the surfaces that make a truck look old before its time. In fifty years of owning mostly Ford trucks, I don't recall ever having a golf ball hit the load surface of the bed. I have had a few rocks and pieces of steel dropped in the bed though.

I'm a big Ford guy, and I have a new alum F250. I did see something a little unsettling this weekend on Interstate 5. I drove past a brand new F150 in Caribou(no plates yet), it appeared that someone backed into the rear passenger door(crewcab), leaving a Big dent. The door had what is best described as a vertical tear through the door panel roughly 18" long, in basically the center section of the door. The tear was not jagged, but more like a tear you make in a folded piece of paper.
