Engine/auto tranny options for my C800
I have sorted out my tires/wheels and found a power steering conversion from a later C series for my 58 C800.
Now I am looking for an automatic transmission and or engine options. I have a 332HD with stick.
Allison MT42's are far and few between. WHat would be a good combo? Cat 3208 and Allison? Ford 390 FE and ??? 429/460?
Looking for some power to haul plus the ease of Auto transmission. Not familiar with what engines and transmissions match up. I also may want to make some 500+ mile trips and not have to fill up every 100 miles.

I'd vote for the 6.6 for good power with decent mpg. With the fuel adjusted, it's not a gutless turd that most people experience. Max from the factory was 185hp.
My 2nd choice would be a Cat 3208 in 250hp trim. Not the best economy, but pretty smooth and quiet for being 10.4 litre.
Either engine with the Allison MT643 or 653. Durable trans, and can take what you throw at it.
