1962 FT250 warranty plate decode

I am working on a newly acquire truck. I am not sure that I have the original engine and transmission. The warranty plate reads

F25CR251317
122 M F250 A B4
07400 135 3800

It has a 2bbl V8 with a 4 on the floor. I think it is the 292. I am confused though on the transmission. I have seen data which says the A is the three speed and I have seen it as a 4 speed.

Can some one help on this.

Thanks,
Dave

The Warranty Plate reads:

F25CR251317 / WB: 122 / COLOR: M / MODEL: F250 / TRANS: A / AXLE: B4 / MAX GVW LBS: 07400 / CERT NET HP: 135 / RPM: 3800

I have seen data which says TRANS code A is the three speed (1961/65*) and I have seen it as a 4 speed (1966/79 New Process 435).
Welcome to FTE

F25 = F250 2WD

C = 292 2V

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

251317 = 1962, assembled January 1962.

122" Wheelbase.

M = Corinthian White.

F250 2WD, 7,400 lbs. GVWR

A = Ford 3 Speed Manual Transmission (non syncro 1st gear).

B4 = Spicer/Dana 60 Rear Axle / 4.56-1 / Limited Slip / 5,000 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

7,400 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

135 net HP @ 3,800 RPM

*A = 1961/62 as above / 1963/65: Ford type 3.03 3 Speed Manual all Syncromesh Transmission / 1966/79: TRANS code C was used with the TYPE 3.03.

1961/64: If originally equipped w/a 4 speed, TRANS code would be: F = Warner T-98.

Welcome to FTE! Lots of great information here.
It is very common for people to change the driver's side door (after an accident) but not reinstall the original Warranty Plate on the replacement door.
Or, some previous owner has swapped in a different engine and/or transmission.

The easiest way to confirm what the truck originally came with is to retrieve the VIN stamped on the upper frame rail on the passenger side. The VIN is the first line on the Warranty Plate and will not give you everything, but it will tell you the correct sequence number, date and engine the truck had when it left the factory. And the frame VIN will tell you if the truck is titled per the door or the frame (the one the government uses) or both.

The frame VIN will be lightly stamped about between the front of the engine and before the radiator. Don't use a grinder to clean it, use only a wire brush. A grinder with a wire bush would be OK, though. The numbers are not stamped very deeply.
If the VIN it is different, then post back with it.

How about posting some pictures? We like pictures!
Again, Welcome to FTE.

Welcome to the FTE did your warranty tag have a DSO after the engine RPM?

On my 62 (F-100) the warranty plate was installed on the inside of the glove box door. Probably less likely that it would be swapped out in that location--though in my case, someone just removed it for unknown reasons.

OP has a 1962 F250.

1961/62: Warranty Plate located on the inside of the glove box door.

1963/79: Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch.

btw: The IDIOTS @ FoMoCo haven't learned anything! Certification Label on new trucks located on the left door face below the latch.

So...sooner or later...the same thing will occur. People will swap damaged left doors with used doors, but since the label is glued on, it cannot be removed from the old door and placed on the replacement.

Well, I did not know the Warranty Plate was on the inside on a '62. Learn something new everyday!

I love the people trying to sell a 1963 F350 that has a 1979 frame under it.

Thank you, now what engine?

Thank you all for the information and warm welcome!

I will post pictures when I am qualified to do uploads.

So now my question is "Have I identified the engine correctly as a 292". With the transmission not being the type listed on the warranty plate, is it possible that at one point in it's life someone replace the transmission and engine?

Any pointers on this is appreciated.

Dave
