I would love to buy this and put my 85 crew cab on top of it.

Wow! That looks like a fun project. Would take quite a bit of custom fabrication to get the cab forward enough for the wheel wells to line up and the steering to still work.

This is very true on the fabrication but it would be worth it

Yep, not capable at all. I mean look at this. It still has all tires on the ground maxing an rti ramp.

We used to play "try and get the duce stuck" in my military days. It is harder than it looks.

Big deal. My 2wd F-superduty can go up a METAL ramp that far

Without lifting a tire? Doubtful. Very doubtful. Rockwell axles, a 350:1 crawl ratio and 44 inch tires fit stock. Are they a poison spider comp buggy? No. Will they embarrass about any vehicle you see on a trail? Yes. The only downfall is its size.

Frame flex does not count. I have driven a duce. It will make a fool out of any stock civilian truck. And many built ones.

And needing a football field to turn it around.

They sound cool in theory, but in reality they suck

The Steel Soldiers forum regularly holds rallies at a local wheeling spot in Indiana, so I have seen plenty of 2.5 and 5 ton military trucks in action. I would never want one for a dedicated trail rig

I'm sure they are a blast to tool around in but they're so big that they can't even fit down the trails at Haspin, they are forced to stay on the fire roads. I've seen 1 ton pickups on 35s go through holes that stopped M35s. Everyone rejoices when they show up though, they make fantastic recovery rigs.

Take both hands and spread your arms out side to side... kind of like you are being crucified. Now make your hands into fists and envision you're holding a steering wheel that big. That's what the steering wheel is like in a Duce and a half.

Not really that big, but it's the largest steering wheel I've ever used to drive anything. Oh.. and all with no power steering...

I use to drive them all the time when I was in the Army. As much as anyone wants to disagree, they will go anywhere. They may be slow and bulky, but they will go anywhere. As long as it'll fit through..

Once I drove a 5-ton though, I never wanted to touch a duce again (no pun intended). Power steering... If memory serves me right, even had 5 settings or so to change the inflation of the tires depending on what terrain you were going over... sand, mud, etc..

I guess the hills and holes at Haspin aren't considered anywhere. They get stuck out there fairly often, usually multiple times during their rallies.

I've witnessed a YJ cruise around that creek without any issues, but what do I know. I've just seen these things get stuck every year they hold rallies at Haspin.

A yj weighs what? 2900 lbs? Hell, according to those here the army should scrap all the m series trucks and run super duties. Load the bed with 12 men or a few tons of material and see what it can do. Both of those videos were driver error BTW.
