1995 died while driving and no restart

Merry Christmas all!

Well I have a 1995 f150 with a 5.8 and I was driving it the other night and I was slowing down from a 55 to a 45 and my truck just all of a sudden sputtered and died. I pulled it off of the side of the road and it wouldn't restart. I can't hear my fuel pump kick in but I have power to it and I checked all fuses and checked my fuel pump relay and it's good... I also checked the inertia switch. So im leaning towards the fuel pump (spectre brand) which is only a year old..

And help would be great! Thank you

Codes?

Did you pull codes? Also to test the fuel theory maybe dump a lil gas into the engine and see if it fires? Don't guess, man it could cost ya big time...

First off do you have two tanks?
If you do does the pump run for one second in the other tank when you turn on the key?
How do you know you have power to the pump?
Where are you checking for power at?

Spray it with some starting fluid, brake cleaner, or whatever you want and see if it'll fire. If so, I suspect a fuel pump.

Something similar happened to me yesterday. I stopped at a feed store and when I went to leave the truck started and ran for few seconds then died suddenly and wouldn't restart. Checked all the fuses and they were good. It turned out to be the MSD coil I put on when I did the tune-up. I had my stock coil in the tool box, replaced it, and it fired right up.

Stock parts are always the best.

It threw a code 542 when i checked it. And I tested to see if it had power at the fuel pump plug back by the tank.

I only have a single take cause it's a 4x4 short box single cab.

Also the coil is the original factory one. But it had a complete tune up including plugs wires cap rotor 30,000 miles ago and had been running great.

The PCM Computer is not seeing what it thinks should be there on its pin #8.
It makes a big difference if the 542 code read out in KOEO or CM.

It spit out codes 114, 116, and the 542. The 114 and 116 were because I had to pull codes when the truck sat over night. What would the difference be between the two?

The difference would tell you how to start troubleshooting the fuel circuit.

The KOEO test is an electrical test of the circuits hooked to the computer.
The code from the CM tell you what failed during the driving self-test.

I'm pretty sure it was KOEO

DTC 542 KOEO indicates that one of the following has occurred:

No Start:
-- Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch not reset or electrically open.
-- Open circuit between the fuel pump and FPM circuit connection to the power-to-pump circuit.
-- Poor fuel pump ground.
-- Fuel pump electrically open.

Where's the ground for the fuel pump?

A fuel pump being electrically open means it's bad?

Also does a open inertia switch mean it's bad or has a bad wire?

Thank you so much subford!

Drivers side radiator support, G100.

It can and most of the time it is. But check the other options first.

No, most of the time it means the inertia switch is tripped and needs to be reset. You reset it by pushing down the red button on top. Some times the inertia switch is bad.
