Changing tire size and adjusting speedo

Hey guys. Been looking at a level for my truck and some new wheels and tires. If I change sizes, can the dealership recalibrate my Speedo and transmission shift points for me?

Yes they can but as I understand it but only to a certain tire size. 35" comes to mind as that's the Raptor factory tire size.

I have 235/70/r17 now and I'm looking at either the raptor size or 275/70/r17 which I understand is a factory size too

Most dealers will inform you that they can only input the "sizes" (whether that be diameter or circumference) for factory offerings. In most cases that means the biggest a standard dealer will attempt to calibrate is the 315/70/17 off the Raptor.

However, if you have a dealer that is incredibly aftermarket friendly (i.e. they install lift kits on their trucks on the lot) then they likely have the necessary programming capability to reprogram for ANY aftermarket diameter.

You might not even notice the difference, or possibly like the change without reprogram. 275/70 is what like 33.2"ish tall maybe?

IIRC they can only pick from sizes that came on that particular model, maybe +\- 1 size. I don't think the dealer can program for Raptor 35s on a XLT/FX4/Lariat etc...but 5Star can . Let us know if you find out differently from the dealer

That's what I was told Chumley. First they said it could be done, but when they "did it", the new settings didn't stick!!! I just have to remember that my speedo is off by 7% so the 5-0 stays off my back.

Really no big deal tho, because my old F-350 had the same issue and I dealt with it for 200k!!!!

I don't know what the thresholds are for tire size difference. I've heard of people having ABS or Advance Trac warnings when changing tire sizes. These issue mostly appear when turning or in slippery conditions. Just something to keep in mind.

I run basically a 35" tire, and have that issue. It's really just a minor annoyance, basically the AT engaging during an off camber turn. You can turn it off so it doesn't happen but you have to repeat that after each restart. Just hold down the button for ~ 6 seconds until the light flashes on the dash then it's disengaged

I just got off the phone with Ford and they confirmed the same things you guys are saying. He had just dealt with a guy who had his speedo recalibrated for his new tires and it popped engine codes for ABS, the sway control and his trailer tow. He said it cos t the guy 1500$ in the end and still had to return to the size his truck was programmed for. He said in the 11-14 models particularly this will happen. I may just go for the same size with a wider tread and a level on the front

So what are my options to keep the same diameter tire but with a fatter tread? My tires just look tiny and thin. If I have to keep with the same diameter I want something a little beefier you know?
