For those who change their own oil, got a question,

For those of you who change your own oil. You put 13 quarts of fresh oil in, how far do you drive before the next oil change? And now the big question, when you drain your oil, how many quarts do you end up with.

IE: how many quarts are you low from the original 13 put in at the fresh oil change?

I change mine when the truck tells me to, unless I'm getting close in miles and have time to do it earlier.
I never measure the oil I take out. the level stays consistent on the dipstick the whole time.
I check my oil level a lot more, now that I bent the dipstick tube toward the left fender so I don't have to climb up on the truck to check it

13 in and 13 out. I do 5K oil changes. Some go by the oil life monitor.

I prefer sooner changes.

I don't make any and I don't seem to loose any either. My OA's come out good too.

If I have been pulling the 5er, I change it at 5k. If I have been lite weighting then I will let it go to about 7k. I keep an eye weekly and drain water 3 times a month, winter I check the water a little more often due to the swings in temperatures. Condensation can add up....When I change it, I have never had more than just a dab more, maybe a pint. Not like the ole 6.4 I had where there were time with 3 quarts over the 15 quarts with a total of 18 quarts.....

Stretch mine out sometimes, my OLM just went off on this last trip on the way home at just under 9K, will be changing it tomorrow.

I do almost 100% highway which is the lowest stress on the motor so I feel just fine letting it go that far.

But, everyone should do what makes them feel right.

And, like most, never measure how much oil drains out, but when I pour the old oil back into the jugs it generally comes out right, 3 gals for 3 gals, plus the oil in the filter.

I change mine every 5000 miles, in fact I have never gone over 5k on any vehicle I have owned. I need to change mine in about 700 miles and I will do my first oil analysis.

We use our 2013 F350 CC DRW for "seasonal" heavy use during migrations to and from AZ and occasional RV excursions with a 5K Arctic Fox Pickup Camper. Otherwise, light duty and mostly highway. I use the oil life monitor exclusively. When it says to change the oil, I change it. Mileage varies from 6500 to 7900 between notifications. I use 15-40 DELO. 13 quarts out, 13 in (I also use the empty 1 gallon jugs to recycle the old oil). I added 1 quart during the first oil change cycle, otherwise no oil added. 31,500 on this truck, and no complaints. Mileage keeps improving.

Climbing the front of the truck to reach the dipstick at each fuel fill keeps me limber!

Last truck 2011 was 13 in and 13 out... This one, don't know yet, but it appears after 2900 miles it is making oil. I usually change a little earlier than the oil minder as well.

I do 5.5k mile OCI and I do notice that I get maybe 1 quart less than I put in, but that excludes the oil drained from the oil filter.

I change it when the truck tells me too. On my 2011 I always filled three gallon jugs with the old oil and never needed to find a place to pour any old oil that didn't fit in the three gallon jugs. So, I always got 12-13 qts out. Always put 13qts in.

My 2015 has 5500 miles on it so I'm expecting to need an oil change soon and look forward to getting fresh T6 5w-30 in there.

Since I change my own oil, I use synthetic and just go until the Oil-minder tells me to change. Plenty of protection built in by using syn. plus better operating parameters in cold and heat.

Every 5k with 5w40 motorcraft synthetic for me. It's expensive but I don't put a ton of miles on the truck, I do it about once a year. Just changed it at 9900 miles last week and have a sample in the mail. I consider oil as cheap insurance and don't believe in going past 5k on my personal vehicles.

I do my work truck, a 2012 Peterbilt with an 8.9 every 250 hours which equates to 7-8k. That's right about where they recommend for the mixed city/ highway driving I do. I work on heavy equipment and lots of people are going to 500 hour intervals. That's nuts IMO.
