1964 F100 "Custom-Cab" top speed

Hello everyone

I'm new here. A Young guy from Switzerland (europe) who has recently imported a very nice 1964 F100 "custom-cab" from Texas to Switzerland.

I'm now on the way to get the F100 imatriculated to Switzerland. But there is one big Problem. I Need to know the top Speed of thsi car.

Can anyone help me with thsi?

I Need something official, like an old Magazine, a brochure or something like that for the swiss authority.....

Welcome to FTE

A sales brochure probably won't list the top speed, but a road test in a magazine will.

autobooks-aerobooks.com is located in beautiful downtown Burbank (CA), has 100's of old car/truck magazines. Send 'em an email and ask.

Roman - welcome to FTE. What a typically stupid bureaucratic requirement some moron has dreamed up for you. Top speed is going to be determined by what engine, transmission, and axle ratio you have. Some of these trucks will be straining at 65 mph (approx 110 km/h). These would be the trucks with 223 cubic inch (3.65 L) 6 cylinder engines, rated at 114 gross horsepower at 3600 rpms, 3 speed manual or 4 speed manual transmissions, and 3.70 or 3.89 axle ratios. Raising the axle ratio to 3.25 would help the top speed a little, but not much because the truck has the aerodynamics of a brick wall. There was a 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive available, but the problem of poor aero and not much horsepower probably wouldn't increase top speed all that much. The 292 cubic inch V8 (4.8 L) with 2V carburetor was rated 135 gross horsepower at 3800 rpms, would be faster, and might even reach 90 mph (@150 km/h) with the same transmissions available as the 6 cylinder. Because of the lousy brakes and the coal cart suspension, driving your truck at 150 km/h probably wouldn't be recommended. Both engines could be had with an automatic transmission as well, and that would increase the likelihood of the truck carrying 3.25 gears. Maybe one of our '64 F100 owners like Shadowrider or Arctic Y block will have some magazine information they could copy for you. Maybe one of them has made a "banzai" run in their truck and can give you first hand information, subject, of course to what their engine, trans, and gears are. Have you had your warranty plate data decoded? If not, post us the information and someone will gladly decode it for you. Of course there's no guarantee that in the 50 years since your truck was built some previous owner didn't change some part of the powertrain, in which case who knows what the top speed will be? Ask your friendly Swiss politzei for a few minutes time on the autobahn with a radar gun handy and then you'll know for sure. Good luck.

I once went through the speed cameras in Scottsdale at 106.....

But that was with 472 fuel injected cubic inches and a 2.75 gear set. That speed in a 64 straight axle truck required a distinct lack of brains on my part and not much traffic.

ad mine to about 87 MPH yesterday and it was still pulling hard. Problem is my grey matter took over an it unapplied pressure to my foot. I am sure mine would do over a hundred easy. 292 4 spd 4:10 ratio

Maybe you could plug all the info into a speed calculator and figure it might make 4500-4800 rpm in high gear.

Do they charge some sort of tax on how fast a car will go?

Do the insurance companies charge by how fast it will go?

What kind of speed limits do you have there?

Do they want to make sure you can't out run the cop cars?

Hmmmm, now that has to be one of the strangest questions I heard on this forum. I would also like to know why or who exactly wishes to know that. Insurance co charge more for faster vehicles or some kind of tax for having a faster car/truck. Wonder how much they charge for a horse and cart.

Well, my friend, there's a difference between how fast your truck CAN go and how fast you are WILLING to go
