diff problems

G'day my 1978 f100 diff centre has died, dropped a bearing and completely knackered itself so I've bought another complete 9inch diff with the same 3.5 ratio. Pulled the centre out which is in perfect knick and gone to put it into the old diff which is in the truck but it will not fit? Studs just line up but will not slip in properly?? Any help would be much appreciated! I'm stumped cause the centres seem to be identical.

Just have to whack it with a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet.

+1. They can be a royal pain to get on the studs at times. It'll go you just have to work at it.
