1999 7.3 turbo white smoke, loss of power, no start

hi folks, I have a 1999 ford f550 , 7.3 turbo , 200k+ miles. was driving to a jobsite a few days ago. truck was running great with no issues......that is until it started smoking white smoke badly, fell on its face with no power even with the throttle to the floor until the engine cut out completely. haven't been able to get it started since. fuel pump is kicking on but you can hear small traces of air gurgling though the pump, fuel bowl refills real fast after draining it and turning the ignition on. oil is about 1/4 inch below full mark. tried unplugging the icp and starting but to no avail....I don't even know where to begin trouble shooting. PLEASE HELP!!

Sounds like it's out of fuel...or really clogged mixing chamber screens in the (delaminating) tank.

If you have plenty of fuel in the tank, look into the Hutch mod or a variation of it.

could have a restriction at the pump inlet,do you have auto enginuity,or code reader?white smoke could be coolant, next i would check injector cups for leaks

Start with the basics. I wouldn't start pulling injectors without first having a compelling reason to do so, and knowing what the fuel pressure and cranking ICP are.

F550? If it has the steel tank, that delaminating thing BigAlsPSD brought up is a real possibility - but the fast fuel bowl fill shaves those odds.

Do you have oil in the valley or dripping down the bell housing?

Look for a tin nut and a solenoid pack on the IPR.

Sounds like a dying fuel pump to me. Or clogged screens in the tank. Remove the fuel line from back of the pump (see pic) and blow air back thru the fuel line. Remove the fuel cap first. If the screens are clogged that should blow them clean temporarily. Hook the line up and if it's ok then you need to do the Hutch/Harpoon mod. If no change disconnect same hose and put line on pump to can of good fuel. If no change, replace pump. OE Bosch is best.
