1974 F100 4x4 power steering and brake upgrades?

Hi folks, I've been searching around and still scratching my head a bit.

Now that I have the old F100 running and moving, I'm thinking about what I want to do.

Its the bare bones model, 240c.i. I6, manual drum brakes all around, manual steering, in-out box, standard 8' bed, vinyl seats, etc.. the BASE.

Part of my thought process is what if anything I should do with the brake and steering situation on the truck. It has manual brakes and manual steering. Both of which need extensive rebuilding (steering slop and now brakes).

Are there recommended / preferred ways to upgrade to power steering and power brakes on these trucks if they came manual? I'm looking for cost-effective ways if possible.

For example: Does a later model power steering box swap in so I just need a box and a pump? The parts diagrams I looked at for 74 F100 power steering on LMC and rockauto made the upgrade seem very pricey.

It's either keep it and fix it or sell it, kind of on the fence.

I also have a 74 F100 4x4. Mine has both power steering and power brakes, so there are definitely some stock parts that will bolt right on to your truck.

Retrofit a 78/79 integral ps box and linkages... I did it to my 73 using jy parts for only $353. There are a couple of links in the tech thread compilation on the swap.

I'm still running drums ... power drums and it stops really well. I'd like to swap to discs but it is really a low priority... if ya wanna do it, either swap the entire axle or all the parts from the knuckle and outwards from a disc d44.

Thanks guys!

I was wondering about that later model swap. Will look into it.

I don't mind drums I just like brakes that stop the truck well. I don't mind manual brakes on cars but this thing never stopped well. Can I just add a booster to the stock drum system?
