It sometimes amazes me how much I DON'T know about things I THINK I know a lot about. When I start getting actual training on stuff, a whole new world opens up.

Good afternoon gents.

Most photography nowadays seems to be nothing more than a snapshot from a cell phone.
I couldn't know less on the subject if I tried, I should admit.

At one point I tried my hand at the dark room stuff and I was learning more and more about taking nice photos. With life changes I never continued to pursue it. Now I mainly take photos to document stuff.

I've also got an EOS Rebel, but it's 10 years old now and I think "only" 12MP. With the Canon bag, extra zoom lens, charger, and a couple of memory cards I think I paid a grand. It still takes great pics; original battery still holds a good charge...but it's too darn big! My iPhone X takes great pics and goes in my pocket.

I tried my hand at HDR photography in the past which looks pretty cool, but I stick to the cameraphone now.

In the early 80's I bought a Minolta SLR film type camera which I still have. When the digital's took over I ended up buying an HP that took some nice pics but now have two Canon's..a SD630 pocket camera and a larger SX50 that has one lens from wide angle to 1200mm. So many things you can do with these its mind boggling. Nice compared to the old film type that was a pain compared to the new ones!

There’s still a place for the big body DSLR cameras, but when digital became a thing, every couple of years I would buy another compact digital camera as the resolution got better and better. I even used to buy photographic inkjet paper and print my pics after processing them on the computer. When the cameras on my phones got to the point where the pics on them were as good as or better than what I could get from a camera, I stopped buying cameras. I also realized that the easiest way to view a photo album was on a computer, rather than turning pages in a large book.

I do still think that that if I had the time and money to do so, I would enjoy having a nice DSLR.

I have a lot of they huge bulky camera gear. I'm a Canon fanboy because I own a lot of Canon glass. At an average football game, I take around 1200 pics. A soccer game, perhaps 2500. Of those I take, 10% are worth keeping. 5% are worth sharing. There are usually 1-5 pics that are unreal. It's a hobby and I love it. I can't do that without my ridiculously big DSLR that everyone makes fun of until I'm done editing and they all start asking when I'm going to start uploading!

I totally agree - especially with the ratio of pics taken, versus pics worth keeping or sharing. That’s why I liked getting into digital so many years ago.

Continued to make slow progress on the front entrance area of the house..... The custom, multi-layered trim is taking some time.

Photo taken with my LG V20 phone......

Roy, I hate to keep distracting from the house project, but it was your camera that jumped to its death! LOL

So talking about photo albums I put one together on YouTube from this spring.
