Lippert just started powdercoating frames in the last year. It was a very welcome change! I wish mine was that way as I have rust just like Roy...

Rodney..... I am thinking of two different approaches to taking care of the frame: (1) use rustoleum to paint it. (2) use the undercoating you folks use in your region. Any thoughts ???

Rust is cancer Roy. Once it's in there... The better the prep, the longer before that happens. But it's coming sooner or later...

Roy, I use Rustoleum on my vehicles. The slow-drying type is better than the fast drying stuff.
Now if you want to spend some more $$, POR15, type paint will be better. KBS is same type but a bit cheaper.

I've used both but, KBS is cheaper and have not noticed any difference in performance.
POR15 says to topcoat if you want to keep the gloss. U V rays fade the color but don't hurt the performance.

I used the Rustoleum Rust Reformer on my trailer. I then coated it with bedliner. The Rustoleum says it isn't for automotive situations (like the exposed frame). I figure the bedliner will keep the Rust Reformer "primer" protected. The rust on my '06 trailer wasn't too bad but I wanted to head off any problems.

I am soooooo happy that Montana does not use salt. Trucks/cars last forever here. The Montana was transported from Indiana to Idaho and then to here in the winter..... Dec 2015 - Jan 2016. That must be when it was exposed to a bunch of salt....

Mine started on our very first trip. Our maiden voyage was to a campground right on the Maine coast and a storm blew in on day two. 3 days of wind, rain, and spray coming right off the sea. The RV was covered in white crystals by the time it was over and rusty underneath when we got home...

So that is a 3 1/2 ID axle and 7 leafs correct? Just had mine done, I think I got screwed. I wanted two 8K axles also. Plus they made the springs shorter so they had to weld new hangers on the outside of the springs.
