Dammit Darren - you beat me to it! I also prefer my beer in the fridge or freezer, than on the grill.

Roy, I was loaded up and ready to head out to help wash the truck, but got held up at work.

LOL I knew I would need to be quick

With distinguished guests coming (and Roy) the resort authorized changing the water in the hot tub. 2 trips and 550 gal later it is done LOL. It sucks when the water is an hour drive away ... and you have to pump it in

What kind of water do you use for the hot tub? I use the same variety that ends up flowing to my shower, kitchen sink, and even the toilets. Besides, I thought there was a lake nearby (back yard). I don't think Roy is really worth fancy water. Perhaps Lynn and Theresa are though on second thought.

All these pictures of your trip are bringing back great memories growing up.

My parents drove our family to Alaska from southern Oregon in '90 and '92. In the winter of '92 we bought a commercial salmon fishing site across the Cook Inlet from Kenai/Seldotna. We drove up in '93-'99 with all of our equipment and groceries to spend 3 months in the Alaska bush. I have many great memories driving the Alaska Highway and the Cassiar (Don't ever take that one with an RV!). A few times we drove to Fairbanks, once to Skagway, and been on the Top of the World highway twice taking the ferry into Dawson City. One summer we drove all the way from Oregon to Nebraska and then north through Wyoming, Montana and Alberta, some of the most gorgeous country I've ever seen, especially Jasper.

In '99 my aunt and uncle took me on a 2 week moose hunting trip on the Yukon River before I joined the Navy. 2 weeks on a small river boat with the nearest village sometimes over a day's travel away, northern lights at night and howl of wolves in the distance, felt like I was in a Jack London novel. My parents finally moved up there in 2002 while I was in the Navy and they now live in Anchor Point, which I'm sure you remember driving through. My younger brother now lives in Anchorage and still operates the family fishing site in the summer with my parents help. Meanwhile I'm stuck in California because that's where the work is, still working for the Navy, but not in the Navy.

Anyhow, sorry for the long post. Thanks for documenting your trip and all the great pictures. I know for a fact your granddaughter will remember this trip for many years as I do my first trip in '90. Thanks for your many years of service and enjoy the rest of your trip!

It is just city water ... it all gets hauled in (the same variety that ends up flowing to my shower, kitchen sink, and even the toilets) all of it. We have a 1,200 gal cistern. There is no potable water there. That is why I always have that tank in the back of my truck LOL VVVVV

Do have a well, we used to use it for toilet but it smells like sulfur a bit (but it is clean). Just use it now for watering lawn and spraying the kids. Some people (almost everyone) pull water from the lake but technically it is not legal to do so.

I was wondering about the water tank cruising around with you everywhere. For some reason, I always figured it was for the beaver property where the shooting range is, but hadn't thought about the fact that you were carrying the tank around before you bought the property.

Use the sulfur water for the hot tub. It will keep the mosquitos away, and Roy will just pee in the water anyway.

Northwindone, it sounds like you have some great things to remember. What do you do for the Navy now?

I can't go into too much detail, I'm sure you can understand, but I'm a software test engineer. I test new and/or updated avionics software. In the Navy I was an AT2 (Aviation Electronics Technician) on F/A-18s. Spent a couple cruises on CVN-72, or as us airdales like to call all carriers..."the boat" . Sailed past half the world, would have been nice if we ever pulled into port.

I absolutely understand. Your job sounds like it is both fun and challenging! Had my high school years gone differently (get off my **** and make better grades), I may have been testing out the avionics in F-14's from the front seat many years ago.

No more F-14s though, was sad to see that aircraft go, but the flight hours were extremely $$$. But I also hated working on deck around them, their engines pointed down at the deck and their jet wash wrapped around the jet blast deflectors, very fun to get caught by. Several aircraft I worked around on deck are now gone or just about gone. F-14 Tomcats, EA-6B Prowlers, and S-3 Vikings. Now the decks are just various F/A-18s (Hornets, Super Hornets, and Growlers), Helos, Hawkeyes, and the occasional Greyhound.

BTW, my wife was almost a Seabee, was injured in boot camp though. Probably for the best though as it would be hard on a marriage, hard enough with spouses being the same or similar ratings, can't imagine being an Airdale married to a Seabee and trying to get stationed even anywhere close to each other.

I put the part about the F-14's as a small clue to how many years ago I joined. The F-18's were just really starting to take over back then, and Top Gun was every 16 year old male's fantasy job. If I couldn't get in an F-14 or F/A-18, I really liked the Vikings - not because they were an awesome bird - but because they looked cool!

I could imagine it being very difficult to get construction and aviation somewhere near each other.

Darren, there are two ways of dealing with Sulfur smell.
One is very simple, one costs a little.
I have a filter that back flushes every other night. Solved !
