Yea, I know how to reset the spedometer moduole to the correct #'s for 35's. The 5.5" lift is 3" body and a 2.5" on suspension. Hopefull I'll get the money for new gears. Anybody know where can I find gears for the Dana 44 Ifs?

Drivetrain.com....get dana spicer stuff...it's cheaper then aftermarket. You can get 4.10s with the bearings and everything you need to install if for 189 bucks. Go with ford racing gears in the back at 190 bucks from summit racing, with summit's 8.8 install kit for 70-80 bucks.

If you are going to change from 3.55 (or 3.54 actually) to 4.10's in the D44, you will also need a new carrier. You need the new carrier for anything over 3.92.

Will I notice a difference between 35's or 33's with the power loss? I saw headers @ summit racing for $160. would that help much with the power loss?

The rule of thumb is every inch taller you go with tires from stock it is like taking .10 off the current ratio in your truck. So this is kind of close to what your truck might feel like: with 33's your pickup would feel like you had 2.95 gears, with 35's it would feel like you had 2.75's.

To be closest to stock 3.73's would work good with 33's and 4.10's would be closest to the stock feel with 35's. 4.10's with 33's would make it feel like you had about 25 inch tall tires on your rig and gas mileage would probably suffer. That is just what I have read and calculated myself.

He does have OD and I would suggest 4.56s if you don't do a whole lot of highway driving. The stock tires were 29" tall. You also have 3.55 gears. If you got 35" tires, than getting a 4.30 gear would be the same as 3.55/29" tires. Since there is no 4.30 gear for the front axle, you must get either a 4.10 or a 4.56. I just went through this same thing. However, you have an automatic with .70 where my trans is .80 so I went with the 4.10 gears. You can go with the 4.56s and be fine.

i always tell people to go a little lower with the gear because more often than not they will have the itch to go to a larger tire someday

Can somebody explain to me how to recalibrate my speedo to compensate for my 35" tires? I have been running them since last fall and didn't realize that my E4OD tranny is shifting wrong because of the speedo reading being off from 5-9 mph depending on my speed. Thanks in advance.

All you would need is a new gear to put on the end of the speedo cable where it goes into the transfer case. It takes about 5 minutes to change.

http://tciauto.com/tech_info/speedo_gears.htm

If you go to this site you can calculate what gear you need. I have a formula written down somewhere and I can't find it right now that is a little easier to use. I think you would need a 20 or 21 tooth. I think I went from 16 to a 19 with 33's on my truck and 3.31 gears. You may want to buy a couple of the gears if you have to use the 20 or 21 tooth, they are very fragile because there are so many teeth and seem to wear out kind of fast. I took one out of another vehicle that had only ran 6 monts or so and it didn't look to good. It still worked but several of the teeth were broken.

Justin. A couple questions if you don't mind. Why 4.10s over 4.56s? And are you doing the gears yourself? Also, who has the best price on 44 carriers. The prices you posted sound very good. If I can find 37" MT/Rs I'll use them with 4.56s but they seem to be on backorder everywhere.

I was rearended and have put off all mods since the first of the year. Just got hit again two weeks ago. Both in the rear while I was stopped. I've just located a new bed and will be installing it along with the taller lift this month. The gears will be next, so I'm shopping.
