Changed Fuel Pump, now tank leaks at flange

Got the fuel pump changed yesterday. However now it leaks slightly at the junction of the fuel pump hanger and the tank flange. I had to reuse the original seal because none of the new ones would fit. I did thoroughly clean it, but i wonder if I didn't run the locking ring around far enough.

Do you guys think that I can crawl under the truck and tap the ring around further or am I going to have to take it back out and replace the seal?

Thanks for the help!

Seen this.. your o-ring isn't quite sitting right.. might be squeezed out in one spot or something. The lock ring can only be rotated so far so there is no way to over tighten it. Sucks but I don't see you fixing this without dropping the tank.

Metal tank or plastic tank? On a metal tank the ring has stops, and the ring is fully seated when it hits the stops. On a plastic tank you have a threaded collar, so I guess you could try and tighten it, if you have a plastic tank. I have a feeling you will end up pulling the tank to solve you problem tho.

Metal tank, but I did not move the locking ring around until it stopped. I suppose that is my issue.

Well...after driving nearly 120 miles yesterday, I finally got teh tank down to about 5 gallons of fuel and decided to give this another try. Instead of the six hours it took the first time, it took less than 2.5. Took off the skid plate, removed the straps (after jacking up the tank), lowered the tank enough to remove power, fuel lines and evap lines, dropped the tank the rest of the way, put the tank on the tailgate, removed the locking ring, removed the seal that I should have replaced the first time. Stretched out the new seal just a bit, replaced the locking ring, went ahead and turned over the tank to make certain it would not leak, then reinstalled. Drove around, no leaks, filled to the brim, no leaks...problem SOLVED!!
