chock the wheels, remove the linkage, and using a 1/2 or 9/16 wrench on the piece coming out of the transfer case you should be able to shift with the wrench.

Chock the wheels? Also about shifting with the wrench do you mean in the cab or under the truck?

yup, chock the wheels so the truck does not roll over you. you will need to put the trans in neutral. i don't trust parking brakes if i have to drawl under the truck.
and yes, use the wrench to move the shaft coming out of the transfer case.
when you get under the truck and remove the linkage from the t-case you will see on the shaft there are 2 flat spots on each side of the shaft.
put the wrench on the flat spots and then move the lever.
if you start from 2 wheel drive, one click will put you in 4 high. two clicks will put you in neutral, three clicks will put you in 4 low.

I was wondering if I will always have to shift with the wrench in Neutral or will I be able to shift it in park?

you may be able to do it in park if there is no load on the drive line. but with trans in neutral, you will know the drive line is unloaded.

Okay so I am having a bit of trouble here I can't seem to get the shift linkage off of the arm in connects to, and goes to another arm to the transfer case. I tried to pry it off using a screwdriver like a bar, and some WD40 but no luck.. is that the right piece I am trying to pry off? I tried to shift it under the truck with the linkage on, seemed to "click" but no 4x4 light came on. Probably just the linkage hitting up against the trans

WD40 won't do anything; it's neither a penetrant nor a lubricant. Try some penetrant such as PB-Blaster.

Can you post a pic of what is stuck?

You are prying on that flat rod from the shifter to tbe transfer case with the plastic bushings on each end, I assume. You need to pry really hard to remove and install it. Every one ive done I thought I was going to bend something or ruin the bushing.

Yeah I will have to try harder obviously, like you said bashby I don't want to break any else as I plan on getting the linkage in the future... I'm also wondering how it should shift coming out of the Tcase, I'm wondering if it kind of rotates or should I be able to pull/push it horizontally? I live in an area with lots of hills and the town doesn't plow as much as they could so 4wd is essential here. I am going to get it inspected today and luckily the roads aren't bad now considering the massive storm we got last week.
