I have a 460 carb in my 95 bronco right now I have a devorsed transfer case but doesn't line up with stock front end can I use a c6 from a 351m and my stock transfer case or what do i need to bolt on 4 speed from 351w can I use the cluch that go's with it and just change bell housings? don't want to change to solid front axle
How short is the rear drive shaft with a divorced T-case??
351m/400 c6 should work as should a 4spd with a 460, 351m/400 bell. The 83-87 f250/350 came with the 460 and 4spd. Look for the hydraulic version, which should be all, and use the 95 hydro clutch setup. I'm not sure the 351m/400 bell will work because it's mechanical clutch, but maybe an external slave bolts up.
Also, the 460 was offered with a C6 for years. Well into the 90's.
Can't find a wrecking yard any ware within 1000km that has a 460 4x4 transmission just trying to make sure that my stock transfer case will bolt up to c6 from 351m or if all I have to do is change bell housings to bolt the 4 speed I have already or do I need 390 cluch and flyweel
Blocks C8VE, C9VE, DOVE, D1VE produced from 68 to 79 have a different crank pilot and balance than the D9TE made from 79-97. So it matters what year your engine comes from. The early motors have a pilot similar to an FE, the later one is similar to the 351M / 400. D1SZ-6375-A is the early C6 flexplate, D9TZ-6375-A is the late one. From what I understand the 351M converter will work in the later block, but you'll need a 460 converter for the earlier one. The snout is different. Measure the snout on the TC and the crank and make sure they'll fit.
Manuals can be tougher. You need a diaphragm clutch as the Long style will hit the 351M bellhousing. If you get a 460 bell then just use all 460 parts. Early engines are 0oz balance, later ones are 24oz balance. Get the appropriate flywheel. On the earlier engine you can use the 390 flywheel with a 360/390 clutch setup and the 351M bell as it fits better. For the later engine it's best just to use the 460 bell as it's bigger.
A parts truck would be a good idea, but you'll have to pay attention to what year your motor is and make the appropriate changes with the flywheel. 83-97 are the only factory 460 4x4's offered and will be the later block with the 24oz balance. With the early block, use everything else but substitute an early 460 flexplate and TC. For the manual use the early 460 flywheel and clutch. The 351w 4spd should work fine.
The 460 crank may not be machined for a pilot bushing if it was originally an automatic. I've seen people use a 302 pilot bushing and it worked fine. Yet another thing do mock up if you go with the 4spd. Lastly, the manual and automatic starters may be specific depending on year and application.
