My first post in this forum. Hope someone can help. I have an 02 Navigator w/295K. Runs fine. I had my drivers side heated, remote mirror busted. A new replacement was to expensive. I got an OEM unit from a parts dealer on eBay. Looks like an exact match.
Today I removed the old mirror, housing, wiring, etc. Replaced with the new one. Uh oh. The old one had 2 wiring plugs, the new one only one.
I noticed the plug alignment guides on the new one were about 1/16th off and would not allow the new plug to fit. The number of pins and position appeared the same. I took a Dremel and ground down the guides. It fit fine.
Put it all back together with one connecting plug.
OMG. My window controls don't function, my dome lights/interior lights don't come on and my radio does not work. The exterior lights work, the instrument lights and signals work. All of this out after the mirror was changed.
What have I done? I frankly don't have the money to get into a major repair. Retired and on fixed income but I'd like to get this stuff running.
I did pull and replace the fuse on the radio but to no avail.
First, thanks for a response. I'm on my Mossberg and Walther forums a lot but this is my first venture into auto/trucks. Yes, the 7.5 amp fuse in #4 is good (visual inspection).
I took a picture of the old mirror and the new mirror side by side. They have a female plug and they match but.... when I tried to join them together I noticed that the new one has two guide rails/ridge that are about 1/16" shifted. It would not slide in. I used a Dremel to grind them off and then it fit perfect. May have been a mistake?
The BIG difference is that the old mirror had a main wiring harness as does the replacement but it also has a smaller wiring harness with only 2 pins in it. I was thinking it may be the heating unit power?
Plugged in the main and when I reattached the plugs for the door locks and windows I found the locks worked but none of the windows work. So then I noticed the dome/interior lights not working and the radio is not working.
All of this from a mirror? I'm wondering if I unplug the entire unit if I'll get all my other stuff back on?? I just needed the mirror. I'm the only driver and adjust it and leave it. Any thoughts?
I'm retired and just don't have the funds to drop $200-$300 on a repair. I'm thinking the wiring must be different and has knocked out the radio, windows and interior lights. Perhaps I'll unplug it and see. Weather has gotten really bad so I may have to wait.
Thinking out loud, did you buy a mirror without the "blinker" option?
I would think one harness for adjustment, one for the power blinker lighting.
I'd get a vom on it and test for power to adjust only, forget the lighting side.
Plugged in the main and when I reattached the plugs for the door locks and windows I found the locks worked but none of the windows work. So then I noticed the dome/interior lights not working and the radio is not working.
The radio and the power windows are controlled by the accessory delay relay(ADR). The ADR keeps those items powered for 10 minutes after the key is turned off unless one of the doors opens, then they go off at that point in time. Between that and the dome light not working I'd say something happened with the door ajar switch circuit or fuse #14 is blown.
Yes it does have the blinker on the outside edge but it works! I'll let things warm in a couple days and remove the door panel again and then unplug the whole assembly and see what happens. I can live the darn thing not moving but I need my radio and windows. Crazy it would cause all the other problems.
Thanks.
Yes it has memory option. When I engage it the mirror seems to go to my old memory position. It does move, as does my seat.
It's a nippy 25 degrees in my driveway this AM (just outside of Atlanta) and I'm going to wait a day or so before I get out to it. I plan to remove the door panel and pull the electrical connections apart. No power to the mirror at all.
Then I'll see if my radio, windows, etc are restored. If so, I'm ok. If not Plan B.
I think I found the problem. I stated in the first post that I had 2 sets of wires/power and plugs in the mirror I removed (OEM) I got a unit with only one set (OEM). In looking at the Invoice I see it says it's a manual folding unit. I have a power folding unit. The second set of wires has to be for folding/unfolding. I'm sending this one back and will order one that has the power fold option. I'll let you know after it comes in.
Thanks for all the advice.
