Since i am swapping in a modular motor with fuel injection I am relocating my fuel tank from the cab to behind the axle. With the relocation is always the question of where to put the filler. There have been several good posts on relocation options, behind the tail light, behind the license plate, in the bed floor, adding a fuel door to the side of the bed. The option I like best is behind the license plate, but it is slow to fill the tank because the Mustang tank fills from the top. So in my search for fuel tanks I cam across this tank. It is about 2 inches deeper than the Mustang tank but has a smaller foot print. The filler is on the side so I think this may make it easier to install the filler behind the license plate.
What is everyones opinions on how well this tank will work for that.

Matt, I did my filler behind the license plate using the 16 gal Mustang tank for EFI from Tanks Inc. I chose this tank because it was already set up for EFI plus the fill tube was bolt on. They offer several different angles to bolt on. To fill from the license plate area, the tank must be mounted lower than the fill spout. Therefore a more shallow tank is better so it doesn't hang too low. I don't think the tank you've pictured will work very well for that reason. Hope that helps a little.
Thats what I was wondering if since this tank has the filler on the side instead of the top if I would be able to mount it up high enough. This tank is also set up for the in-tank fuel injection pump. Thanks for the input, I will keep looking at all options
I'm looking at mounting a tank under the bed while the bed is off too.
CJ Pony parts has good prices on mustang tanks in 16, 20, and 22 gallom
Tanks Inc. has a 54 Chev tank that will fit inside the frame rails and side fill.
Bronco graveyard has a Bronco II tank that will fir between the frame rails but is 13 7/8 deep.
I'll probably go with the Mustang tank because the fuel gauge is compatible and use an external fuel pump for fuel injection when I replace my 460
hey, if you don't need the screws for the sending unit and the bolts to attach the tank to the back of the cab i'd love to get them from you. PM me if you can help me out, please.
I was just poking through the DC online catalog and found this tank. Not sure it would work or not, but that width dimension sound interesting and it's not terribly tall.
I used a tank from a 89 full size Bronco in my 61 f100. I used it for a couple of reasons.
1. I wanted a tank that was set up for fuel injection.
2. I knew that I wanted to add a fuel door to the side of the bed and this tank has a side fuel opening.
3. The tank fit between the frame rails with only slight modification.
4. It is 33 gallons. I hate having to stop for gas.
5. It was under $100 off Ebay and the fuel pump/sender is fairly cheap.
One problem with the stock fuel pump is that it is only a pusher pump and isn't enough for a fuel injected engine. I had to change it out for a Walbro after market one.
It does sit down below the frame rails quite a bit but I don't think that it looks bad.
It would be interesting to see pictures of the 89 Bronco tank installed. Being 15 3/4" deep it would have to hang down a lot. There are also Bronco tanks that are not as deep (25 gallon). It just seemed they are 2" wider than the inside of the frame rails.
