Is Ford Raptor History?
#4
Ford's website recently stated under Q&A for the new F150 that Raptor news was to come later. Now that the 2015 F150 page is live, I don't think the Q&A section is there anymore. If Raptor news is to come, there could only be two options. 1. "Ford will no longer off the Raptor (I highly doubt they would waste their time with a press release for that). 2. 2016 F150 Raptor (that's what I am betting on). I could see three possible engines: 1. 3.5 EcoBoost, 2. 5.0 EcoBoost or supercharged, 3. GT350 engine that should be announced soon. But Ford hasn't always been predictable, and maybe these options are too predictable, and Ford will offer something completely new?

I think the Raptor was pretty successful for it's two purposes. 1) it was a "halo" vehicle, that generated buzz for the entire truck lineup, and 2) , it actually sold pretty well.
I think they had so much on their plates with the new model F150 that they were planning a year or two off to make the new Raptor. My guess is that it'll be badged as a 2017 model, available mid 2016

I think with how well they were selling they would be stupid not to bring it back. An article I read about a year or two ago said that they were selling faster than they were making them. I wonder if it'll launch (if they do bring it back) at the same time the new 9 and 10 speed auto transmissions roll out? They could wait until then which is early 2017 (18 months from 2015 MY)?
Then I wonder if they're bringing back the Raptor if they'll bring back the short lived Tremor?

My dealer has one of the few remaining Raptors left in the area. When i was having my oil changed this past Friday I took a gander to kill some time.
What a machine!! But, the EPA estimates are dismal at best and that should be expected for such a truck. Truck Trend continues to report sightings of 2016/17 test mules so yes, I'm confident that she'll make a strong re-appearance. I'm also confident that the 6.2L is completely gone given that the MPG's really suck. Well, maybe they don't suck for such a built truck but you all know what I mean.
If I were a betting man, I'd lay my money on some form of a boosted engine mated to the new transmission.

If GM makes any serious attempt to compete, it would be with the Colorado ZR2 (just a concept for now), allowing for a light(er) Raptor with the 3.5L Eco stomp on it pretty handily.
