quick connect on hydraulic clutch Help

Ok, So I have a 95 F150 4.9 with a 89 ZF 5-speed in it , needed to replace the slave cylinder , the first one I bought the hydraulic fitting on the slave was too long and wouldnt fit though the bell housing, second one i found fit through the bell housing, but it came with a new style fitting they called a "quick connect" and the little retaining clip was obstructed by the bell housing and would not let the unit seat properly . So finally I found one that appeared to be the same dimensions and had the old style ford hydraulic clutch connector on it . well my question is did they make more than one size of the hydraulic fitting because I got everything back together and cant seem to get the line to pop back in, or is there some sort of trick ?

What model year does the slave cylinder fit? There was a design change sometime around '93 where the master cylinder bore diameter and slave cylinder design changed (and possibly the hydraulic line as well). If all the components match up, try opening the bleeder before connecting the quick disconnect fitting.

thanks, yeah I've already tried that , no luck , the slave is out of an 89 -250, so I went and ordered the Hydraulic line off the 89 -250 , does anyone know if I'm going to have a problem putting the clutch hydraulic line off of an 89 f-250 on my 95 f150? should the hydraulic line be the same diameter? is the master cylinder the same? thanks

So the master cylinder and hydraulic line were original to your '95? The line size doesn't really matter, just the fitting at the end. I'm not sure if or when that part may have changed, but I know there was some sort of change starting I believe in '93 with master cylinder bore diameter and the slave cylinder changed at the same time, although I don't know the exact differences with the slave. I think the master cylinder also changed in '92 with the body style update because the mounting stud pattern changed.

Usually when I come across situations like this, I find it helpful to check a parts website (usually napaonline.com) and compare part numbers and specifications. This helps to ensure all the components are compatible with each other.

thanks that website was exactly what I needed , unfortunately I will be pulling the trans back out but at least I know that I would be wasting my time trying to fit an 89 clutch line on a 95 master cylinder , just wanted to thank you for posting that website for me

I just went through this with my 93 F150. I bought a kit from rock auto that had the slave, line, and master cylinder all together. When I took my truck apart I realized it had the old design slave on the truck and the new slave would not bolt to the transmition as it should because the original bolts were too short. I bought longer bolts and put it together that way. I knew the line and master would work with the slave so I made it fit inside the bell housing with longer bolts. They were M8-1.25x30MM
