Found along the side of the road...

I always keep my eyes open for sources of parts for my F4 or other project needs. Today I was traveling a route I rarely take and noticed a few big trucks along the road. I stopped and talked to the owner and he was nice enough to let me take a stroll through the yard. I told him I was looking for a bed frame and he said he didn't think he had one- and he was right. Some nice stuff, some claimed by nature long ago. Thought I'd share.

Looks like a great way to spend the afternoon.

Too bad he didn't have what you need, but still fun to stroll around and wonder about what sort of tales those old trucks could tell if they could talk

The '52 was in nice shape too, Joe, but the bed was a crude homemade job from channel and angle iron. It was pretty rough on the left side too.

Great old truck ****, Howard. Looks like some decent sheet metal on some of those.

Have you checked out -- I think his name is Lloyd Stedge, along rt 40 in Glade Hill E of Rocky Mount. Been a while since I was there. Located N side of rd near a body shop. Darn, thought I could find it on Mapquest - nothing. Another might be Clyde Turner in Elamsville. He has a lot of old stuff but, won't sell parts - just complete vehicle. Another contact might be RapidRuss in your area (Burnt Chimney) he hasn't been on in a while.

I'm not sure what happened to Lloyd- his place has changed quite a bit in the past 5 years and most of the fields of cars has been hauled away and crushed. I bought a parts '69 Marquis w/429 from him about 12 years ago. And old Clyde Turner is a real character! I got a decent '70 XL w/ buckets, console & horseshoe shifter from him several years ago. He really has quite a collection out there.
The yard I passed yesterday is on rt. 29 several miles north of Amherst, VA. My understanding is that vehicles can be bought, but rarely can individual parts.

I thought that at first too. But the pic looks like the missing 52 hood side trim circle left a rust imprint on the hood. That's why I called it a 52.

And it has a 48 - 50 front bumper.

I thought it was mentioned in another thread that the big trucks had smooth front bumpers in 51-52?

They do have smooth bumpers, but the position of the license plate bracket from a 48-50 covers the right park light (or converted turn signal) on a 51-52.

You're welcome. I only know this because I got a perfectly straight 48-50 bumper from Josh Madsen and I moved the license plate bracket to the center on my 51.
