Next Silly 6.0L Questions (Trans Temp)

Hi all,

Have a question about trans temp and the stock dashboard gauge. Where should it normally run when NOT towing.

When i first bought the truck ('06 F250 CC) I thought it was an EGT gauge and didn't think much about it since it never seemed to get above 1/2 way. When i realized it was a trans temp gauge, it bothered me a bit because it gets to half sort of quickly under no load.

Am just curious if that's normal.

Thanks.

It's nothing but a glorified idiot light as is the engine temp. gauge. In real terms my tranny has never gotten over 185 towinging the Sierras. Get a ScanGauge ll for app. $150. It will tell you most everything you need to know including ect/eot spreads. By the time the factory gauge says trouble you've already lunched something.

That's a fact....the only factory dash gauges worth looking at are the speedometer and fuel gauge.

The factory transmission temperature gauge is calibrated to be right in the middle anytime the transmission is between 50°F and 230°F.

Yikes, the trans temp gauge is more useless than I thought....that's quite a variable. (180* difference and it reads the same)

And people wonder why they overheat or have engine failuers.
"But boss the gauge said I had good oil pressure"

Fwiw it's takes a lot to get the Trans much above 140, let alone 180.

Thanks Gents, appreciate the input. Since this is my first coal burner I'm sort of in uncharted territory.

Those factory gauges are more than likely just as useless on a gasser.

Yeah. The trans temp "gage" is not a gage at all!!

And evidently, the oil pressure gage isn't either!

The oil press. gauge is basically a switch set to go mid range between 5 and 7 psi.
