2004 4.6 V8 radiator flush & antifreeze/water capacity?
Hi folks.... sorry I do not have my manual with me, out of town and ran into a cooling emergency while on the road. I am also sorry about the long post.... but I am a bit worried.
I had to do an emergency radiator flush and thermostat replacement. All went well and engine is staying cool now.
I am perplexed about the amount of distilled water and antifreeze that went back into the system.
What I did was park on a slight hill with front of truck facing down hill.
There was no traditional radiator cap on top of the radiator, so..... I removed radiator/water fill container cap. Removed radiator drain plug. Removed bottom radiator hose. Removed thermostat housing and thermostat.
After all the old antifreeze appeared to be out, ran a garden hose down into the engine where the old thermostat sat. After water ran clear, I did the same through the radiator/water fill container till water ran clear from the radiator.
Sealed system back up and filled with water, ran engine for ten minutes and emptied the entire water from the truck. I also removed the bottom radiator hose again to assist with removing all the water. I then installed new thermostat.
I slowly filled antifreeze and water as I ran the truck until it appeared to be the correct level.
I was able to put in only 1 and 1/3 gallon Zerex G-05 Gold container and 1 and 1/3 gallon of distilled water back into the system.... that seems awfully little.
I ran the vehicle around the neighborhood for about 20 minutes here in the Tucson heat. The truck has been sitting and cooling off for about an hour now. I just checked and the reservoir is at the correct 'cool' level.
My questions.... I might not have did a 'professional' job, but does it seem like I did an ok job?
What is the correct capacity of antifreeze/water (50/50) in a 2004 F150 4.6 V8 Triton motor STX 2 wheel drive pickup truck?
