Hello have a question! Or need advice.

I currently have a 97 F150, but I am wanting to buy a new truck. I have been looking into purchasing a GAS (non-diesel) F-250. Unfortunately, I have struggled in finding details in reference to how many MPG's I should expect to get (Now I know this is the case because the weight of the truck doesn't force it to disclose it's MPG's). But I am looking at a F250 between 2006-2012 Crew Cab and 4x4. I don't really care for the trim, it can be an Xl to a King Ranch if I find one within my budget. anyhow Can someone tell me what MPG's I should expect to get if it is either the 5.4L engine or the 6.2L engine??? what I can expect on a good day or what can be expected on a bad day? Any tips and pointers or info is greatly appreciated.

Fuel economy is going to depend on use and how you drive it, but the gas engine trucks get pretty poor mileage no matter what.

Running empty down the highway at a reasonable speed(65 or less) without a strong head wind maybe 15-16 mpg, towing, hauling heavy, going too fast and such will bring that number WAY down, like maybe as low as 8-9 mpg.

This and resale value and engine longevity are where diesels have it all over gas engine trucks.

Yeah I read an article that other guys were averaging out 12-13 MPG. I would get the diesel but the maintenance (not questioning reliability on diesels, but the cost of repairs if and when they break down is astronomical from what I have been told)But I appreciate the reply! May just have to look into another F150 though I just love the look of them F250's (super duty's in general).

Go to the site Fuelly.com and browse down to the specific models (and engines) to see what actual owners are getting. The way it works is with each fuel fillup users post their gallons and mileage. The site then calculates the MPG and keeps track of it. Then all makes/models/engine/drive configs/etc. are arranged for direct comparisons.

I baby my gas pedal ( V10 F250) and my current average is 12.7 MPG; my entries are located on the blue link (below).

The 5.4 in my signature gets 15.5 mpgs unloaded and 13.5 when towing my 8k lb trailer, but I keep the throttle off the floor and the rpms below 3k as much as possible.

Just for general reference, I went from a 1995 F-150 (SC short bed 4x4, 4R70 trans, 302, 3.55 gears) to a 2007 F-250 (SC short bed, 5R110W trans, 5.4L 3.73 gears) and my fuel mileage went up about 10%.

Just a caution, but things like larger tires/wheels and lifts will have an adverse impact on fuel mileage.

My truck gets roughly 13.5-14.5 highway (heavily loaded with work tools/equipment etc.). I have the 6.2L with the 4.30 rear end. This truck and engine combo have done everything that I have ever needed it to.

If I were you I would get the newest truck you can afford. Best of luck on your search.

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks guys for the info. I am going to go for an F250 for sure, after all they say "you don't buy a truck for fuel economy" might as well get something I like. Happy thanksgiving.
