Lost ignition keys.. how do i remove lock cylinder?

Yeah yeah, I know, i should know, but my memory isnt so hot! Lol!

Picked up my ol Powerstroke last week, which is a story all on its own.. Couldnt ever find my damned ignition keys! Not paying $350 for a locksmith to come out and make a new key!

So how is it we remove the lock cylinder without jackering things up?

The only way I've ever gotten one out without the key was by drilling it out. You have to have the key, turn it to the run position, then press the button on the bottom side to pull it out.

Yes, you will have to drill through the tumblers, and then use a screwdriver to turn the ignition to "Run", and then push in the lock pin (underneath) to pull the assembly out.

You can also drill out the lock pin, but there is a plate at the back of the ignition switch which only allows it to be pulled out in the Run position, so you still have to drill through the tumblers. Use a drill bit about the same diameter as the width of the key slot.

i found the best way to get them running after loosing the keys is to find a hood rat, and offer him $5 to get it started. he will have it running in under 10 seconds.
just make sure he does not drive off in it!!

^^^^^ And how exactly does that get the column (and shifter, if applicable) unlocked, or the cylinder out so it can be replaced?

Then you have to pull the steering wheel and shifter collar. replace the collar and key mechanism and replace the steering wheel.

not really. most of them use a small slide hammed. 2-3 slaps and the cylinder is out. the days of the smash and grab are long gone here.

Yeah not my best work lol. I actually typed up a post but realized what I wrote didn't really answer your question. I couldn't delete the post for some reason so I just editted it.

i got my 91 home finally, had it towed, went to work on it but cannot find the keys. on my95 there is a hole to put a pin in, cannot find one on the 91. i bought a new locking cylinder for the ign. and as soon as i tear everything up the keys will probably show up. do i have to drill the tumblers out?
