I've been doing without my keychain remote ever since I got my '97 F350. I got it used, and the salesman said that the previous owner never used the door lock/unlock remote. I put a new battery in the remote, but nothing happens when I click it.
Can you tell me if this is supposed to work from the factory, or do I need to get something put in the truck to get it to work. If it's supposed to work from the factory, what do I look for in the truck to get it to work.

I'd check the owners manual. In my 2002 you can do a little trick to get the truck to learn who the FOB(your little transmitter) is. If your truck has the Remote Entry System that is

This Ford Site has some owners manuals for the newer trucks, but it might work for you.

 

The truck didn't come with the manual, so I might have to go shopping and read one while test driving a similar truck.

 

I got a manual for a different vehicle on ebay, recently.. go there, enter Ford Powerstroke owners manual, and see what happens.
