Some Dyno Numbers and Turbo info

I agree somewhat that displacement helps the 7.3 vs the 5.9 but don't the characteristics of an inline lend it to make up or come close to bridging that 20% size difference in the torque department. Comparing the brand new 6.7 to the 20+ year old idi is pretty out there. The 8.3, I'd compare that to a 7.6l DT466

All apples to oranges anyway... i really dont see the point in everyone comparing everything to a 12v. Do you compare the 390 to the new 6.2? Howabout the 300 I6 to the ecoboost? Or even the 302 to a 4.6 or 5.0 coyote? Furthermore, the only 8.3 ive ever operated is rated at 160bhp. 1160/3208 Cat (10.6liter or 636 cubes) is a whopping 225hp. The twin turbo'd E9 in our mack is 460hp... 999 cubic inches i really can go on, but there literally is no point. I think justins point was how much low end power we can have with a v8 when an inline inherently produces great low end. Cubic inches dont matter when you have a turbo, thats why you have a turbo. Bottom line, its straight up impressive for a classic / antique, outmoded, outdated, forgotten, dead-end platform that as little as 2-3 years ago EVERYONE knew couldnt make over 200whp without thousands of dollars. Thats the more optomistic view, the majority wouldve had you thinking you would be "picking up rods off the pavement" should you go for anything over 15 pounds of boost.... rant over

Not yet, hit a little snag with the housing on the pump. When I locked the timing out, it beat the hell out of the threads in the bore of the advance piston where the plug goes. Keith was driving home from work one day and the cap just popped off, the threads with it, that was after I made the timing functional again. So we yanked the pump, and its getting housing swapped. After that, we will hit the dyno again with functional timing. If boost makes a jump like it did on the street, should be no problem busting the 400/800 mark. He is also sourcing out his water/meth kit, so maybe he will have that by then as well.

I would be happy with half of those numbers out of my e250. 200/400 at the wheels.

Just kidding man. Started over there when I was trying to get some info on my truck. Got to asking around about hp mods. The comment that you made about the rods on the pavement sounded exactly like what they said! Long story short, I got to talking to NMB2 over there and he told me that I would get a better response and better advice at FTE. Just reminded me of that.

Oh, yea ive read some stuff over there when just doing internet searches. That may very well have been where i found that. I was reading one article that went along these lines: " thats the old non-turbo diesel, i wouldnt mess with one of those or you will be picking up rods off the pavement" Of course, in a psd group. I dont remember which, but one of the justins said it perfect, the psd crowd is just pissed because theyre the ulgy duckling of the big three and the new turn in idi performance has made em even uglier.

Rode in Kieth's truck today, with the latest DB4....
I haven't rode in an IDI this quick to date.... Im not going to make any estimates until the numbers meet the rollers, but its big power, and IDI's aren't supposed to move like that....
That being said, I am going to try and make a couple of pump adjustments before dyno day to milk a few more drops out of it...
More soon...
