Help with 2000 F550 Value
Normally I can guest-imate a truck's value easily, but I am stumped on this 2000 F550. Was wondering if you Super Duty gurus could help me out.
A little background: This truck was originally owned by the Canadaian National railroad. Couple years ago, the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad purchased it and used this truck up until recently when it blew a spark plug out. Ford dealer fixed it with a helicoil, which lasted until the same helicoil blew out. According to the local Ford dealer, it needs either a new head or an engine replacement, so the truck has set for a couple months (Was quoted $3500 to put in a junkyard engine, IIRC $2000 for a head replacement). Recently DGVR has been entertaining offers, so I decided to put one in and see what they would say.
Truck has a V10 and is an automatic. Truck does have 250k miles, and ran strong/rode well before it bit the dust. Interior is in decent shape (no real tears in seats). Does have a decent amount of rust as the time it spent in Canada took a toll on it. Bed is about to rust through in some places, and has rust on the doors. Didn't really get a good look underneath the cab, I was running short on time earlier today.
Here are a couple quick pictures I took:

I am considering making an offer on this truck as I have been wanting a truck that I can haul my tools in when I am out in the field (Be it working on fence or fixing a friend's truck), and one I can drive while my 91 F150 is down to get the radiator and brakes serviced/replaced.
What would you all consider a ball-park for this truck, and would it be worth even putting an offer in?
Thanks for any input guys. If you want some pictures of specific areas, let me know. I will be back down at the railroad tomorrow evening and can try to grab some other pictures.
I guess you need to ask "What is my budget and how desperate am I?"
Do they have a price?
I mean if you are going to drop $2-3,000 for a new motor should you put that money into a "better" truck vs repairing?
If you question anything on this truck, walk away. Not worth the headache later.
Good Luck!
