5.4 Manual to *gasp* automatic?
I have a 2006 5.4 Manual XLT SuperCab which has been a great truck for the 8 years I've owned it, but we have outgrown the rear seats, and it is proving to be too challenging to get my daughter in and out of the back.
Looking around at crew cabs, and obviously all (newer) are automatics. As a last ditch effort, I've done a couple basic searches for crew cab manuals, but all I have found are ads which are mislabeled automatics.
Two questions - have you made the switch from a manual to Automatic in the newer truck, and how did you like it? For how long did you miss the manual?
Any suggestions on how to effectively search for a Lariat Crew Cab with a manual? Surprisingly, the for sale section here has nothing at all.
My driving history with the current 250 would say that gas is probably the way to go - daily commute 20 miles each way, pull a 23' boat 20 or so days a year, approximately 150-200 miles per day. All told I'm averaging about 14k per year.

The autos are so good now that once you make the switch, you will wonder why it took so long. The latest versions also can be manually shifted with a paddle switch on the gear lever but without any clutch action. Then there is the fact that when you are towing, the shifts are almost seamless and virtually instantaneous maintaining the the engine RPM (read torque), especially on a hill. The Tow/Haul makes the shifts even better plus on a long downhill will automatically downshift and use engine compression braking to keep the speed down without using brakes.
And yes, this is from an ancient gears only person that said the same thing.
Since all three major makes no longer offer standard transmissions in their latest pickup offerings, Dodge being the last to fall, you just need to make your brand choice (Ford, hopefully)

Looking at nothing other than a new(er) Superduty. Thanks for the reassurance, sounds like the benifits will outweigh the nostalgia, and the Vette still has a manual so maybe it won't be as bad as I fear.

The only car I miss a standard in is my modified 5.0 powered '31 Ford - but I just don't have foot room so a race prepped C4 does the trick and shifts a LOT faster and harder then I ever could.

G56 SIX-SPEED MANUAL
Modified for increased torque load of the base-output diesel engine, the available G56 six-speed manual transmission also carries a wear-compensating clutch for like-new clutch pedal performance throughout the life of the drivetrain."
I stand corrected !!!!!!!! (again)
