I don't know if it would be worthwhile to get the matching pairs, but I doubt it would hurt anything. The biggest problem you'd run into is head gasket thickness between the two engines, and with as many guys that replace gaskets and don't get the pushrods or rockers re-worked and still not having problems with their trucks running, I'm going to say it's a non-issue.

The hydraulic lifters are /supposed/ to take up the slack(and give it up if things become too tight); if that doesn't work(i.e. engine doesn't sound right after 5 mins of running) you can always stick a shim under each rocker. There are pre-made shim kits out there which work just fine.

Thanks macrobb. So shims reduce a tight fit correct?

Yes, it would. You're jacking up the rocker arm, which means more slack in the pushrod.
However, really, your lifters /should/ shrink and 'give up' the slack.

edit:
Also, all of the rockers are identical between our engines.
Pushrods are, too. The hydraulic lifters take up any thickness variation, valve wear etc.
