Sure hope that I`m off that day. I was at the World series in 89 when the last big shaker hit. Took me 4 hours to sneak back home.
We were gazing at all the old structures downtown wondering about a big quake yesterday. Nice masonry work and really neat goth style buildings that I doubt would take a direct shake.

I was in Gilroy during the '89 Loma Prieta...in the front yard when it hit-sounded like 50 big rigs coming down the street with their Jake brakes on coming towards you, them BAM! Tried running into the house and door was bucked in jamb, crazy schtuff.

We actually went back to our seats after getting our adult beverage and watched players walking around and such, not knowing the severity of it all until a dude in front had a small portable tv and it showed the bay bridge section. Then we knew it was time to go,,,,,,,,,,,As you guys drive on 580 eastbound just when coming into Castro Valley look to left and you will see a big berm on westbound shoulder. Thats where they buried Cypress freeway structure. Little history for ya

I remember thinking the same thing. I mean, this is California, what is a little rumble? However, like you, when they showed the damage around the city, I figured, the game would be postponed.
